Sere 2K vs mini Commander

I've been debating buying an Emerson or Al Mar for awhile, looking for a blade between 3.2-3.6''. I think I'm going to pick up an Al Mar Sere 2000 or an Emerson Mini Commander, and I was just looking for some feedback on either of these knives from the knowledgeable people of this forum.
Thanks
Roger

Both are fine knives. I don't like "waved" knives so to me that's a negative for the Commander. I had a large commander and sold it. Personal pereference, of course.

I absolutely love my SERE 2K. I think it's one of the top 10 production knives made. I prefer it's blade design over the Commander. A couple other pluses are that VG-10 is great steel (so is 154CM) and not being a recurve, it's easy to sharpen.

These are fairly difficult knives to compare because of blade design difference and one being waved. Both are fine knives but IMO, the Al Mar is the one for me.

The bladeprince,

I like the wave, but it's not a deal maker or breaker for me. I think I like the blade on the Sere better, so I'm leaning that way...

my SERE 2k seems to just get better and better--lotta knife in a small, EDC-capable size.

What about the weight of the sere 2000? I believe it's about 7.4 oz, which seems like a lot for a folder. Does it feel heavy? Also, does it carry in the pocket well?

Thanks
Roger

I'm happy with my SERE 2000. It is big for a folder, but it rides very low in the pocket which makes it a pleasure to carry.

The knife weighs 6 oz, not 7.4. It's made to "take it". I has very thick liners which add to the weight a little but that's also part of the reason you hear such high praise for the knife.

As already mentioned, it rides low. It's the only folder I know of the has the pocket clip screwed to the butt end of the knife, not on the handle.

This is not a "run of the mill folder". It was designed for the SERE military program and has been refined over the years. It's just a damn good folder. Great handle, comfortable grip, and a blade that's good for SD or cutting an apple. It's in my top 5 EDC's and I have almost 100 folders.

And if you are looking for a great FB, I also have the Al Mar Operator and highly recommend it. Gread SD and survival knife made from S30V. Multiple carry options available with the Kydex sheath.

As a matter of fact, if all you had in your collection were these 2 knives and maybe a skinner and a smaller folder like a BM mini-Griptilian, you could stop right there and have all you really need. But since you're on this forum, I doubt that will happen....:D

Thanks Bladeprince,

Good info there...I can already feel my will giving way, cheap meals being planned and a Sere being ordered. Knife addiction, such a weird and wonderful thing.
