Several years ago I bought online full-price an ESSE 5 blade from a trustworthy dealer in the US. It has never been used in the field, yet I notice some of the markings are wearing off; in particular, the serial number on the pommel was a little hard to discern. . Embarrasingly, this happened while I was proudly showing off some of my collection to a friend. Since then, I am looking up this shit on internet . This came in the box, all the stickers, cards, etc. I think I registered the blade with ESSE.US, and I am trying to look up the registry, but do they keep an eye on this stuff?

What I am wondering is... that like a collar on my dog, will this puppy get back to me if I lose it in the field?

You'd be much better off contacting them or asking this on their website or forum...but my guess is that the chances of someone returning the knife to you via looking up some serial number is somewhere between slim and none.

I had serial #3 in a esee 5 many moons ago.

I used to have a lot of fun getting into trouble with Jeff, and Mike (R.I.P.), when they'd come to Miami for a visit, or when we met up at the Blade Show.
Now two of our group are gone. First Rob Simonich, and now Mike. Still hard to believe.

Still have several of their blades from back in the day.

Guys, I live in Guatemala, merc center for Central America. Apart from Dyncorp and DEA shit, we also have SERE training in this country going on 40 years. Perhaps I was too subtle. What I am asking is if I gotta use this blade and drop it, will it come back to me? i.e. legally?

Doubtful. Especially now that you've clarified the situation.

But hey, sometimes miracles happen.

I'm confused.

Are you whittling some feathersticks and afraid you might misplace your knife? Or did you just "off" someone and ditch the murder weapon?

I think we need a clearer definition of "if I gotta use this blade". I'm not clear if you want the knife to be linked to you, or not????

If you want the knife to come back to you, engrave your name and address on the blade. If you don't want it being linked to you, I'm not sure this is the right forum to discuss your "activities".
