serial numbers

Yea can anyone tell me about serial numbers, i have a schrade walden 987UH with a serial number on the inside liner , is the serial no relevant to production dates or sequence . my 90's 93OT dosn't have any whats the story.

Originally, the serial number was used to register the knife in the event there was a loss claim in the first year. It was on Uncle Henry models only. Old Timer models did not have the same claim benefit as an Uncle Henry.

By 1982, when the 93OT was first produced, I don't believe the serial numbers were used in Uncle Henry models anyway.

I am not sure what year Schrade quit putting serial numbers inside the liners of Uncle Henry knives.

I don't think anyone here knows exactly when they quit serializing the 897UH. Or most of the other Uncle Henry knives either. At some point it just became overwhelming due to the quantity of knives produced.

I have always wondered how many people actually filed a claim for a lost knife?
And how many of those were legitimate...
