Serious Busse Dilemma

I've recently purchased my first two Busse knives (a NMSFNO and a SFNO LE) and while I really like both knives, I feel squeamish about getting them dirty and using them. I'm sure that this is common but it kind of defeats the purpose of owning such work horse knives. Another thing that I've noticed is that I keep wanting to get a bigger, thicker blade and find myself wondering if a .22" or .25" thick blade is the knife that I want to trust my life to in a survival situation, especially knowing that there are .32" thick INFI beasts out there. I guess that I'm just down with the sickness!

Recently I've been thinking about purchasing an ASH-1, which seems like it would be the ideal knife for what I want to do (camp chores, survival trekking, field dressing game, and fending off the odd big foot). I have heard that sharpening can be an issue with the larger (thicker) blades and since I'm a relative newbie to knife sharpening I want to make sure that I don't get myself in over my head. Any suggestions?

All I'll say is buy 2 of everything you like...
One to beat on, and one to keep nice and clean. :D

I didn't particularly like the heavier bladed ASH-1s, but REALLY liked the Skinny ASH-1s the Busse company store carried; unfortunately, they appear to be sold out. For a thicker, heavier ASH-style blade, my opinion is that a FSH is the way to go. If you can, you should go to one of the big shows (Blade, Spring/Fall Knob Creek, or Blade West) so that you can hold knives and feel how they balance before making your decision.

i doubt you'd have a problem with a .22-.25 thick Busse. it won't fail unless you're seriously abusing it. repeatedly. especially the SFNO and NMSFNO

I can fix both of your problems

sell the sfno and get a ffbm. if you need bigger then that you've only got 4 options - nmfbm (not thicker), moask, moab, or the maybe to be made killa zilla. I'm leaving the swords out because they aren't really "choppers". and honestly, if you really need bigger then the ffbm, then your either doing chores I've never heard of, your your splitting logs.

to get past the squeamishness - spend an afternoon using your nmsfno as a thrower in your back yard or wherever is convenient. preferably somewhere where it will get very dirty if you miss, but not get thrown into a pile of rocks. you'll scratch up the coating, and get it all messy looking, and after about 3 throws you'll be concentrating more on getting your form right then whats happening to the knife.

It is funny how this INFIdiction spreads. I have had the same thoughts and problems, now Lil' FOO has the best Suggestion. BUY 2 OF EVERTHING !!!

MOAB F-ING ROCKS .40+++++:eek::D:D This bad boy makes all mistresses and even my AK47 look small:eek::eek:;)

Sorry guys, within 2 seconds of that pic going up, I emailed Skunk and called dibs. Now, the second green linen is accounted for and spoken for. You had your chances.

I guess that my newness is showing here but what is it that everyone is hoping to see from Idahoskunk??? Who'd of thought that just over a month ago I didn't even know what a Busse knife was. I feel like the first stone age man who cut himself on a piece of chipped flint and couldn't wait to show his tribe his new trinket.
