Serious metal mashers only, need apply

Just pouring the pad for that puppy would break my piggy bank! :(

I noticed they didn't diclose the weight on that beauty. I figure 5or6 ton easy. Allas! :o it won't fit in my shop. Nice yard ornament thow. Fred

Its amazing how many things like that you'll see around once you know what you're looking at. If it weren't for all the power hammer threads and threads like this one I'd have never given what I saw today a second thought.
I was at a local fabricating shop buying steel for some christmas projects I should have started a month ago and as I was walking out I sort of glanced at a big peice of machinery in a corner and went
It's a gigantic trip hammer. The weight at the top must be 4 feet in diameter , and the thing was probably 10-12ft tall!
I don't know what they do with it, but I'm sort of figuring they've replaced it with some of the newer machines and the thing is just crammed into the corner sitting idle.
Unfortunately they were swamped with work and customers coming in, and I was on my lunch break and had to rush out to pay for my steel and get back to work. So I didn't have time to do much gawking or to bug anybody with questions about it :grumpy:

Yes Nick, that's a large one and I would also like to have it. But unless a person is making damascus bar stock to sell, he doesn't need a hammer this large. I have found a 100# hammer, be it machanical or air, to be the perfect size for bladesmithing.

Oh come on Don, don't be a party pooper! ;) :D

That thing really is way too big for the average bladesmith. But I wanna be super-smith! :jerkit: :D

I would like to work on a hammer like that at least once in my life, to at least be able to say that I did, and know what it was like! :)

That sucker would be great for swordmaking. BIG SWORDS! I cant imagine hand-rubbing a claymore.

*shudder*

You're right Nick, my post was a bit too serious :o :p :o :p ( or practical )
I would love to run a hammer like that one.

there is a nazel about 1/3 again larger than this one 25 miles from me that is free for the takeing the only thing is it hasn't run in 30 years.

Dude, Take that Nazel. The dies on that thing alone are probably great bladesmithing anvils even if you couldn't get it running :)

John

That is a schweet bad boy!
Zowada has a big boy in that range.
Man you could make 50 pounders with that hog!
Crane them in and bang!

Here's a pic from Tim's site, where he's forging under his! :D
