I received a special dui chirra Chainpuri khukuri yesterday and was pleasantly surprised how nice it was. Brown leather scabbard with rounded tip brass chape and black HI frog. Nicely done by the sarki with no name.

Karda and chakma usable and nicely done.

The khukuri: Very good work . Balanced. This feels like a natural extension of my hand. Has double Sword of Shiva on both sides with brass inlay work.

Only flaw noted was a crack from the midring to the buttcap in the wood. Will wait until this stabilizes before repairing.

Overall, a good effort by the kami who signs himself with a sun.

Would recommend this khukuri as an alternative to the Kobra or to martial artists or as the khukuri you keep at the bedside in case of unwanted visitors.

Thanks Uncle Bill, Yangdu and BirGhorka,

That knife was done by Jag & Prem. The sarki with no name was quite confused and had several emails sent to me via Gelbu about that scabbard. I am somewhat amazed that we got what we wanted.

Harry was this a special order and if so how long is the khuuri? :)
I got the very 1st one and it's 21 inches.:D

I said the same thing when the new person was asking the other day about khukuris for M/A when I tod him that he had just lost out on a good one, the dui chiarra chainpuri that Uncle Bill had as an UBDOTD.
I was kinda concerned about a 21" khukuri being very fast, but as you say it's would be a good alternative for a Kobra. And it's like an extension of your hand.
The one I got became an immediate favorite right up there with my YCS and BGRS!!!!:D

Bro, Harry special ordered that rig but I can't remember how long it was. I think it was in the 15 inch range, maybe a bit longer, but not 21 inches.

Just wondering.....:)
When y'all were here it was mentioned that y'all wished that HI could get the quality of leather that I made the sheath for the chainpuri blade for.

Does the brown leather cost more than the black and do you have to special order it?
Of course thats sort of a self answering question since if it's special oreder it no doubt will cost more.:D

I do know that if Harry's brown leather scabbard is as good as the one that was made for Howard's daughter that it's a dayumed nice scabbard indeed!!!
That's the nicest scabbard of any I've seen, even nicer than the one for my Hanuman Special with the shrunken water buffalo leather And It Is Nice!!!!:D

It was buff hide but undyed -- look just like rawhide which I guess it probably was.

I don't think I've ever seen cowhide being used in Nepal -- Hindu country -- nor have I seen any horsehide, either. When we went on the leather search all we could find was varying qalities of buff hide.

Remember the special order white scabbard?

Uncle Bill asked:

Remember the special order white scabbard?

Wasn't that one goat? At least that's what I thought I remembered for a white scabbard.

Paul

Paul, I think that was goat now that you mention it and that is another leather you'll see once in awhile.

¥vsa, this khukuri measures 18 inches from tip to buttcap.

I'll try and post pictures of this khukuri in the next day or so and let you judge this khuk for yourself.

I was overloaded and didn't have time to post the pix when Harry asked if I could. The knife was already packed and the Nepali shipping staff was barking to get on the trail.

We can compare the pix and specs to the order, Harry.

This style khukuri could rapidly become the favorite or among the favorite of several of us here.:D
I absolutely love the Chainpuri handle!!!! And the way the khukuri is balanced. Mine feels much lighter than it really is. :D

Harry your Dui Chiarra Chainpuri is just as pretty as mine, just not quite as long.:D
Like I said before ,"I think this khukuri could become the favorite or among the favorite's of everyone."
I love these khukuris that cut like a much larger khukuri.
It must be the speed generated just before the impact although that wouldn't explain the results I had when chopping with a limited swing.
Don't really know or care really, I just like the results.:D

Harry that is one Handsome knife. I'm going to keep my eyes open for another(fat chance. I haven't even been remotely close to scoring any of UBDOTD)Certain individuals out there are just a bit obsessed. Nuf Said!

Yvsa,

I think you're right... with the bell type butt, wouldn't that accelerate the blade just as you finished your swing. Kinda like a cam. But I'm no engineer... who has the gang of engineer friends???

It is an extremely cool looking Khuk, there is no argueing that though.

Alan
