I have a 24 inch paragon and I seem to be having a problem. I read that you should try to calibrate your oven so I pulled out the old pottery kiln handheld device and stuck the thermocouple in the oven. It initially showed what I considered to be a significant difference. Now it it showing a gap of 150 degrees. Oven indicator says 1250F hand held say 1398F. How do you tell which one is correct if either are!?!?!!!?

OK a couple minutes after I posted this the temperature started dropping rapidly now the oven appears to not be working . Where the hell do you get one of these things fixed?

Check the fuse?
At what temp does steel go non magnetic? is it 1414f ? Get one of the readings above that and see if magnetic.

What I would do- someone correct me if wrong
If no problem with fuse, unplug oven and use ohm meter to see if element is broken

Try calibrating the probe in some ice water. Should read 0 or 32 (C or F). If it's a degree or two above or below that, that can certainly increase your error factor by the time you get to triple or quadruple digits.

It's the relay to the controller or something like that. The oven is not working now, but I found a repair guy right around the corner from me who has worked on kilns of all kinds for over 25 years.

On the floor. That might explain the 15-20 degree difference, but not 150 degrees. Something bad wrong with the controller.

A simple calibration test (when your oven is working again) is common table salt. It melts at 1474* F (801* C). Checking in multiple areas can help show your hot or cold spots. Hope it's a simple fix!
