serious question about liners

does anyone actually care what steel liners are made of or how the heat treat is on them?
if so, why?

Good question, and I guess I'm unsure of the exact answer, but I believe 420j is commonly used for liners. I would think you would want a steel that is very corrosion resistant to avoid rust issues inside the knife, i would also think hardness ratings would mean very little for a steel liner and that a somewhat lower hardness would actually be preferable in order to maximize toughness.
