The black coating is a byproduct of the heat treat. The black stuff is bead blasted off to create that look.</font>

It’s all luck really...
The cool thing is that it lasts longer than a coating would. Because you’re not adding anything. You’re taking it away. Plus you get some differing hues in there. Fading from very dark red at the cutting edge to black.

Don't think of it as scale, think of it as discoloration. Though scale is the correct term. Our blades never experience actual scaling.

The tiger stripes are not something that can be added. The dark color is what is left on the blade after heat treat. They then traditionally sand or stonewash or bead blast the blade to remove all the dark color. Selectively sand blasting the pattern is what causes the knife to display the tiger stripes. Therefore, as your knife does not have the dark color already on it, you can't get the tiger stripe pattern done on your knife. My advise, ditch the old knife and order a Strider with the tiger stripe.

Sorry if I seem rude but there is a search option on this posting board for people such as you that are seeking info. Try the thread titled "blade coatings".

use sand paper you can make your own Tiger stripe pattern

by the way ....Strider Tiger stripe finish is not to prevent Rusts is for your eyes only.....
The CRK Kalgard coating is for better rust proof ....

no big deal .....if you don't like your art work just send it back to CRK and plus 20 and shipping you will get your knife a new look again .

wink wink ~~

people can drive what ever cars they like .....

and you can choose the color too , if not just paint it yourself
