I've had my Springfield for a couple of months now, but I'm still trying to decide on the grips she'll wear. I'm aiming for a clean, classic look. What do you guys think looks better?

Well kamagong if the choice is only between these two then I'd have to choose the Antique Ivory Micarta.
However if I was going for the original classic look then I'd have to choose the original black plastic grips from the factory, there's just somethin about 'em that speaks coolness.  ;)

Hey Yvsa, nice to see you around. How ya been?

This gun didn't come with factory plastic, it came with a set of double diamond cocobolos. The cocobolos are nice enough, but I wanted something a little different. I want an old school look, but I don't necessarily want to go fully traditional. Any ideas?

I like the looks of the stag, It's nice and elegant looking....but a bit too western.
I like the looks of the antique micarta....but they look a bit too plain.
I guess if it were my pistol i would have the micarta checkered or have a walnut pair made that is not too dark and again have them checkered. Then you could safely say the were custom non traditional grips.

I vote for the ivory micarta. My dad has a Colt Gold Cup with Ivorex grips, and that thing is dead sexy. While I like my Kimber Tactical II Custom more as a shooting iron/ tactical harbinger of tangos' destruction, Dad's Gold Cup is most certainly the winner of the prettiness contest.
Can I also cast a vote for getting an M1 Garand to keep it company?

The Stag grips look great to me and if I was in your lucky position would have no doubts in picking them.

I think that grips aren't nearly as awesome a complement to a 1911 as a good Garand, so I'd say you're good to go either way. Like that Springfield. I don't know why, but I've always preferred the flat mainspring housing in the 1911. Fits my hand like no other pistol. Whatever pistol "points most naturally," no other pistol will fit my hand like a good ol' 1911.

My Full size 1911 sports a pair of VZ Diamondback grips. Classy old school, no, stick to your paw like glue, YES.

You might also want to check out some of the beautiful grips made by Hakan Pek. He is a genuinely nice guy whom has been doing a ton of grips for the CZ community for quite a while. He gets great reviews for quality of workmanship, fit and finish.

Hmmm, apologies for the shift of subject, but how do folks think G-10 grips would work out for a 1911?

That's the wonderful things about 1911s. The aftermarket support is so great that it is easy to customize a gun to fit the owner. I don't go for G10 grips myself, but that's because I can't carry a gun so I don't need the increased toughness that G10 offers. As a result I don't choose it for my own personal weapons, opting instead for better looking wood, stag, or even micarta.

G10 is a heck of a material though. If I could carry I would probably take a 1911, finish it with a no-nonsense finish like DLC, and slap some G10 grips on it. That should make a hell of a gun, even if it is a bit too "tactical" for my tastes.

Given those two choices, I'd go with the ivory- but it's no secret I am no fan of stag. I also like the look of walnut or something else "brown" with the parkerized finish.

Dibley- welcome to the Cantina! :)

I have no preference, but I'll be happy to take which ever one you deside not to use. ;) LOL!!

I like the micarta. I rarely like stag anyway, but I do think the micarta looks very classy.
