So I have the first Sage and I just received my Ti Sage II. Effin sweet knife. So I plan on collecting each one of these Sages as they are released. According to the literature it looks like one Sage will be released per year. I was hoping Sal or someone over at Spyderco can confirm this and also if there is a number for how many variations will be released.

I'm assuming that since the Liner Lock and RIL have been used already the upcoming lock varieties will be:

Back Lock
Ball Bearing Lock
Compression Lock
Slipit??? I'd love to see a Slipit Sage
and I've heard talk of an Al Mar Front Lock

I'm hoping to see a Axis Lock, but who knows how that'll fly with McHenry & Williams and Benchmade.

I'd also love to see a Hawk Lock (currently in use by Kershaw), but again, who knows.

So who else is going to collect these Sages as they are released? What are some of the innovations you'd like to see incorporated into new releases?

Tony, I wouldn't hold Spyderco to a specific schedule or number of variants. For one thing in terms of a schedule, if we assume "one a year", then the RIL Sage was almost a year late.

As for locks, Sal at one point said the only Spyderco lock he was not certain would work is the ball lock. Not sure if that's changed or not. He also say Spyderco has permission to use the Blackie Collins bolt action lock, so that one is at least a possibillty. And, although I have not been able to find the post and it may just be wishful thinking on my part, I believe he also suggested the Al Mar/McBurnette front lock may be next. It would be somewhat fitting, since that's the lock which got Spyderco off the ground.

Assuming the series lasts that long, I would imagine the use of other patented locks would depend on at least two things. First, the lock would have to fit within the Sage form factor. I don't imagine every lock would. Heck, I'm not even sure a "traditional" back lock would. Second, assuming the lock would fit, the patent holder would have to allow Spyderco to use it. Other factor may enter the picture as well. As an example, lock might require tooling too expensive to make it a realistic option.
