I'm looking for pros & cons from people that have & have had this knife. It has premium materials.Ti ,3V. What's in the pivot? PB? I love the looks of it & it's under $500 & made in the USA.

I've owned a 187DP and while I liked it I did wind up selling it.

It's straightforwardly huge, which I really liked. Simple, no-nonsense huge. The pivot runs on PB washers, and once broken-in you'll get that smooth, hydraulic Medford action; that's excellent. Awesome hollow grind, of course, and a narrower tip than on some other models (while still being robust).

I didn't like the clip, but that's a personal thing; they also change the clips on some models pretty regularly, so I don't know what the new ones come with. Combined with a strong detent (on mine, at least), I didn't find the lockbar release area comfortable for my hands, as it includes two right angles/"edges" and I could always feel them both. I never quite understood the pinky-area jimping, either, but I also didn't use it with gloves; I bet it's perfect for that.

Thanks a lot for your detailed description! That's exactly what I'm looking for.Was it hard to get your money back when you sold it?

You're most welcome! I bought mine used and sold it for less than I paid, which was fine by me. I wouldn't go into it expecting that it will hold its value like, say, Chris Reeve knives appear to hold their value (where folks are selling them for $25 off new and seem to have no problems making a sale).

There is the downside...if you buy new and need to sell later, you are likely to take a big hit (assuming the secondary market for Medford stays the same). I always took a hit when selling them. I did enjoy the knives though and thought they 187 was a cool knife.

It's a big thick beautiful blade but it's just not for me. It's going back.
