I was wanting a small fix blade to carry while walking the dog. Which one would you recommend? I wish the street beat still had micarta handles.

The Serrata is a Inch longer than the Street Beat.
I would just get a Street Bowie because it is thinner than the Serrata.

FYI. I sold my Street Bowie because I will be buying a Street Beat.

Street Beat. You can still find them in micarta now and then if you look on the auction site...

Street Beat if you can find it. If you can't, I say get a Serrata because it still has the beautiful black micarta and satin blade. The plastic on the Lightweight Street Beat and the black coating are not as pleasant.

The Serrata is not a small fixed blade. You can drop a Street Beat in your pocket and forget about it. You can’t do that with a Serrata.

SB size.

For walking the dog, I would get the Street Beat. The Serrata is a larger, heavier knife built for camping, hunting, bushcraft, etc. You're going to notice it more on your belt.

I have the Street Beat in Micarta, I also have 2 Bradford G3's. I have not carried the G3's since I got the SB, I carry it in my waistband and I forget that it is there. Wait until you find a Micarta one, It is a much classier knife.
Just letting you know that when you sharpen it it doesn't get shaving sharp until you get to the higher grits. I accidentally dropped it between my legs after sharpening it and instead of spreading my legs outward I closed them so it would not hit the floor and screw up the tip. I looked down to get it and saw it sticking out of my calf. It penetrated about 1 1/2" deep and I did not feel a thing. got 10 stitches and never felt any real pain. Needless to say the knife was a scalpel. Take your time sharpening it and be careful not to drop it.

The STREETBEAT will get my vote>>however I think it's high time we seen the STREETBEAT model get a newer/better blade steel. Nothing against VG-10 it's just time for something different IMO. I would also love to test drive a STREETBEAT model in Spyderedge.

I think Sal would make a whole lot of people's day with a new Street Beat :D

Both very nice knives but for the casual carry when walking the dog, get the Street Beat.

Its small and unobtrusive. If you dont want to bother mounting it on the belt, you just dump it in a pocket.

Its small enough to be carrried comfortably even in a pants pocket.

You dont need to look for the micarta version on eflay - support the forum and look for them here on the sales forum. They pop up in fits and starts.

VG10 is a great steel. Takes a hair popping edge and hold it just fine.

If its good enough for Japanese quality kitchen knives, its good enough for walking the dog..... and plenty more.

As others have mentioned, there is also the Street Bowie. Likewise an excellent knife and one of my favorite knives in that class but a tad longer than the SB. For your purpose, the SB may be more convenient but you cant really go wrong with neither.

My late, now deceased best friend actually used his STREETBEAT as his primary EDC. Oh he also had Spyderco folders because when I made him a Spyderco convert I stocked him up with some of the better models :D. My friend Richard had a really nice ankle sheath which I think he got from River City Sheaths worked really well for him. He could deploy that fixed blade from his ankle just as fast as I could with any folder.

Like I said before I've often wondered how nice it would be to have a STREETBEAT model in full Spyderedge. The handle on that model is almost as good as the one of the old TEMPERANCE 1 model>> in that it fits just about anyone's hand. I bet there are many others who also used the STREETBEAT for their main EDC.
