Serrated blades?

I was wondering if all the major knifemakers use the chisel ground type of serrations on their partly serrated knives. I have a Gerber Prodigy and a SOG seal Pup, and they both have those type of serrations. On the other hand, I have a Schrade Extreme Survival w/micarta handles that has serrations on both sides of the blade.

I think most use the chisel ground serrations. I think it's because they might be easier to sharpen, but I don't know for sure since I own only PE knives.
