I've never seen one before, but have a chance to buy one. Do any of you guys own one, and what would be a fair price to buy one now, the Becker shortages notwithstanding?

NIB might be up to $100 or more now, but a decent price would be around $75 give or take, which is not much more that the "old" price.
I have one I bought a while back without box, and I think it ran about $40 or so with shipping, which I thought was a good price.

The Companion (Becker BK2) has been going for 80 to 90 dollars on ebay recently. Not sure what the story is with the serrated version, though.

Did Becker make the serrated version, or was that a mod by someone?

I'm pretty sure Becker made the serrated version (Mountainwind can correct me if I'm wrong), although this is the first one I've ever seen. FWIW, they guy that was selling his was originally asking $160.00, but almost immediately dropped the price to $110.00.

I'm going to call him back and see if he'll go to $80.00 and work from there.

Yes, Becker did make the serrated version. Not as common as the plain, but like the BK5, can be found now and then.

Second? Well, I am sure someone will pick up the Becker line, but two issues may occur.
1 Will the metal be as good?
2 Will the cost be more than what Camillus sold them for?
I know this is not an answer, but if I find any at a good price, I will buy them.
By good, I mean close to what they were selling for. Well, except for the BK5.

The serrated version is the BK2SG (as in serrated/Government).
They were sold primarily to the Military.

Leatherneck Magazine had a nice write-up about the BK2SG. The Marine Corp MACE group put a few knives to the test (they wanted to abuse the knives beyond the manufacturers suggested applications). They said "Marines were so frustrated with the Companions unfaltering sturdiness under duress they turned the punishment up a notch. This knife laughed at being hammered into wood and split firewood like its forest-clearing big brother in the BK&T line". In the end the brute-force weapon earned most of the testers grudging respect. They also said "It's definetly not a precision instrument, but if you need a robust knife that weighs a ton and acts like a machete with an inferiority complex. The Companion is your blade."

Tom,
Has that appeared online, and do you happen to have a link to the article?

My second one is now safe in it's new home. I had to drive out in weather with tornado warnings, but wouldn't you? :D
