Serrated EDC

I know there's been Serrated vs Plain edge threads but that's not what I'm going for with my question.
I have a SE Delica and I'm thinking about EDCing it for a while. I know there are those of you that EDC a SE and I was wondering if there's anything you've come across where you found yourself wishing you had a plain edge.
I've carried PE and CE Spydies in the past but never a fully serrated edge. It was a great price and couldn't help myself. :D

I plan on keeping it push cutting sharp so that's not really going to be an issue. The only thing I can envision it not being optimal for is sharpening hotdog sticks. :)

Your thoughts?

Thank you for starting this thread because I truly think it is very timely. I currently carry two Spyderco SE blades as my primary EDC knives. But I do kind of cheat in one sense. Because the 440V, SE Native I use has about 3/4 of an inch of plain edge on the very tip of the blade. And believe it or not it covers about 88 to 92% of my plain edged cutting needs. The other SE Spyder that I EDC is a G-10, ATS-55 Harpy SE. Both knives are great tools and have become real helpers.

OH I like plain edged knives but for all the rough cutting chores I encounter I really need a Spyderco SE blade on many occasions. When I discovered how great Spyderco's serrated blades were I was amazed at how many people said bad things about SE blades. Seeing is believing and in this case USING IS BELIEVING.

When it comes to Spyderco's great Hawkbills I've found that the SE versions are superb. I have a few PE Hawkbills but I carry the SE Spyderco Hawkbills 90% of the time. I will probably always from here on out carry at least one SE Spyder on a daily basis.

I used to EDC a Rescue, but I ALSO always had a plain edge Endura on me - the Endura got used for 90% of cutting tasks, and the Rescue pretty much only got pulled out for rope and fibrous materials. If I didn't have the Endura in my pocket, I would have definitely had times where I wished I had a plain edge blade.

I tried a serrated rescue model and didn't really like it as much as my plain edge. Two of the chores that I expect my knife to do often is sharpen a carpenter's pencil and peel the skin off an apple. The rescue just didn't seem to do those jobs very well. That combined with the fact that I would need some time to figure out how to maintain the edge of the knife is reason enough for me to carry a plain edged EDC.

Maintaining the edge isn't an issue for me. I have an old SE Merlin I use for some work tasks. I've just never carried an SE every day.

Isn't there anyone that carries a SE all the time as their main/only EDC?

Maybe I need to rethink this and just carry the SE for certain tasks.

I used to carry a SE Para - It's currently in Golden, CO having some minor surgery. That knife is great for breaking down cardboard, stripping wire, splitting a Subway sammich, sharpening pencils, etc.
This knife has just enough of a plain edge for the more delicate cutting tasks. The only thing it did not do well for me was removing labels from electronic equipment/stickers cleanly in one shot. A straight box knife is better for this.

Was it sharp?

I carry primarily Spydie SE's now - Delica, Endura, Tenacious, Para, Military, etc. My usage is just basic EDC stuff - boxes, claimshell packages, birdseed, etc. No food. I can sharpen a pencil just fine. The pencil sits right there in a serration. I have not found anything that an SE cannot do, and to me, it does a number of things better than a PE. An SE just seems to eat through its victims like a chainsaw. I still dig a PE, but I'm pretty much stuck on SE now.

Yes. I should clarify my statement though. The serrated knife will do the job, I just could not do it as clean and easy as with a plain edge.

Gotcha. The reason I asked was because I've used some serrated knives that felt sharp to the touch, but all of a sudden they split/crushed the item they were supposed to cut (like splitting a log).
I have the Rescue 93, and it has about an inch of PE on the end, the rest is SE. Haven't used it yet, It's going to be gifted to a firefighter friend.

I just carry one of each  Lately that's been a CF Caly3 with an old school blackti SE Delica.

I used to carry an SE Police and a PE Military as my EDC. My plan was to use the Police for the down and dirty jobs and save the Military for the finesse jobs. After awhile, grabbing the Police became second nature and the Military rarely cleared the pocket. Now days I just carry an SE Endura in my pocket and an SAK on my key chain. Unless I peel an apple or use one of the SAK's tools, the Endura sees 99.9% of the work.

I edc a Salt 1 SE and it has a large portion of the tip that is PE. Works great for me. I think a SE blade is easier to maintain. I sharpen it about 2-3 times a year.

That's what I do too. Usually the third one down in the pic, as well as a PE H1 Spyderhawk. Oh, and the Ladybug Hawkbill on the keychain.
