Serrated edge: Pacific Salt v.s. Endura 4

I'm looking to buy a serrated blade. I love the blade shape of the stainless Police but the handle is too slick for my liking. Therefore I'm considering the Endura 4 SE or the Pacific Salt SE.

I like the handle better on the Endura 4 and it's slimmer profile, but the Pac Salt has H1 steel. Which one should I go with? This knife will be a secondary EDC for cutting fibrous and hard materials and will not go near salt water.

I'm terrible at sharpening although I have the Sharp Maker but I can't get 154cm SE very sharp. So the easier steel to sharpen is also important.

Did you consider the Police with G10 handle? Not long ago I was looking for a full flat ground fully serrated Spyderco... and seems like this is the only option (since I no longer find a serrated Military, which I don't even know if it ever existed!). The G10 should provide you with a better grip and the full flat may suit you better. You also get a bit more blade than with the Endura or the Pacific Salt

Between the Endura 4 and Pacific Salt for an SE blade, I'd pick the Pacific Salt every time. I have both, and the Pac is my main EDC.

The only reason to get the Endura SE over the Pacific Salt SE is if scratches on the blade really bother you, as H1 will scratch. I would go Pacific Salt for sure

Personally I prefer the Pacific Salt. Perfoedge retention) will probably be similar, but I like the liner free design of the salts. I am able to get smoother less side to side play than on the models with liners and bushings. Not a big difference but noticeable to me. The Endura does have a slightly more "sturdy" feel though. I don't think it's actually any tougher, just a bit more solid feeling. Both are great options.

Are the serrations on these two models the same? I'm assuming they have the same thickness behind the edge also?

Yeah, the serrations will be the same. I haven't tested them but serrated h1 will probably outperform vg10. If, like you said, you aren't going to be anywhere near saltwater then I would just base the decision on whether you want liners or not. For the reasons I outlined above, I would choose the linerless salt. Others might prefer the heft of the Endura. Oh yeah, and speaking of heft...Fwiw, due to the lack of liners, the salt will also be lighter. Enjoy whichever one you choose. This is one of those "can't lose" decisions. :)

My personal preference would be for the Pacific Salt. I like lightweight knives and the Salt is lighter, and I think slightly more compact, with the same blade length. There's just something about the Pacific Salt design that has a lot of appeal. The Salt 1 is great too.

Serrated H1 is really great stuff...I'd take plain edge VG-10 over plain edge H1, but my go to for serrations is H1 every time.

I have not owned the Pacific Salt, but Surfgringo has convinced me to take another look. The Endura is more comfortable in my large, thick hand, due to the shape of the handle. If you have a shop close by that sells them, why not hold them in your hand and see which one you like the feel of the best?

I have the stainless-handle Endura 4 SE, and the Pacific Salt SE. I haven't cut much stuff with them, or sharpened either one. But I prefer the heft and slim profile of the stainless Endura. It just feels so great. But if you research this topic you will hear lots of positive comments about H1 serrations, while a plain edge on H1 generally gets panned for poor edge retention.

Not sure how often you plan to sharpen, but Spyderco is one of the only companies who will sharpen serrated edges as part of their regular customer service. That's why I will never own a serrated blade from another company. Just send it in and they will do it for you - I think it's only a $5 charge to cover the return shipping and they will do up to 4 knives per mailing.
