Serrated/plain edge for outdoor knife

I had posted a thread earlier regarding steel types, etc. I have narrowed it down to either a RAT RC-4 or 6, or a Bark River Bravo-2, Fallkniven A1. I usually prefer a plain edge. Can anyone make a good case for serrations?

On another note, I have a nice fixed blade Lone Wolf Loveless Utility that has a 4.5" blade, but a RAT RC4 would be more durable for slitting wood. I dont want to be too redundant in blade length. Love to hear opinions.

Also- advantage of either a 4.5 blade or a 6. I assume the only advantage a 6 has is in chopping, while a 4.5 would be easier to carry. That Bravo 2 may be too long.

I can think of no reason why an outdoors knife should have serrations. In an EDC, I don't like serrations, but I can see where they make sense, because in modern daily life, we're cutting a lot of tape, plastic, nylon, rope, string, etc., and serrations can come in handy. In an outdoor situation, a lot of what will be cut is either wood, animal hide, and food items, none of which call for serrations. In fact, serrations would be downright in the way in my opinion. I consider my EDC an emergency outdoor knife as well, and therefore it does not have serrations, but it does all the cutting I need done, and does a good job.

Nice selection of choices you've got there. Good luck in choosing...

There should be a sticky on this question.
It comes up often.
When I first joined the boards this was a question of mine.
Outdoors serrations not needed, unless you cut a lot of rope.
EDC - partial serration OK but not needed unless you cut a lot of rope and want them, PE can be sharpened when you get home.

all of my town knives are partially serrated, CRKT M16s. None of my woods knives are serrated..

I consider serrated to be disposable.. use it and you lose it..which means don't invest much in temporary.

Every serrated 'extreme use' knife I ever owned made me feel stupid, so I quit buying them. For EDC they work fine, but they're not suitable for camp knives (IMO).
