Hey guys,

So I purchased a serrated RC3 and I'm thinking I should've gone plain edge.

So my question is are there people out there that use a serrated rc3 as a buschraft knife?

How do you best make fuzz sticks? (is it even possible with the serrations?)

Im thinking maybe I should pick up an izula some time but that will have to wait... although I did buy one for someone else... haha

Thanks,

Adam

I got an Ontario RAT-3 with serrations (sorry guys) prior to knowing about the difference between the two companies. Knowing what I know now about knives and about the two manufacturers, I would definitely go with the plain edge. I used to do quite a bit of rope cutting and work in areas that required that type of edge. Now, I'm using the plain edge more and more for "bushcraft" type work. I've also found that when regularly sharpened, a plain edge works just as well for the type work I used to do. There is nothing wrong with having a specialized tool like a serrated knife for specific work. I just find that a plain edge will suffice for all my applications now that I have a better understanding of the means and methods. Plus they are easier to sharpen.:D Hope that helps.

edit to add... The forward edge is still applicable to all the uses you described. You just have to use a little more dexterity when applying the knife to the task.

Like John, I have the Ontario version in partially serrated. I have a better excuse than him for not having the RC- I got mine slightly before RC was in business.... All that said, I have never had any issue with the serrations getting in the way of Bushcrafty stuff, though I do generally prefer plain edges on my fixed blades.
