My brother lent me his PM2 in the titular steel. He’s asked me to do some of my mods and interested in trying serrated. I bought this PM2 for him maybe eight or nine years ago now. Would Spyderco S30V from that time support thinly ground serrations I wonder.

His is the black one.

You might want to check out this earlier thread, which is a discussion on S30V that includes Jerry Hossom and Sal Glesser. I think you'll want to check the hardness of you brother's PM. If it's off -- lower -- it might not take serrations. Otherwise, it should be OK.

I remember back in 2006ish the manufacturers were not getting the quench rate right and the steel could get soft and chip -- which seems counterintuitive. But after they caught on, S30V was pretty good.

Thanks Josey! Jerry Hossom sure is a friendly looking fella from that profile pic. I was expecting someone mean looking (impression his blades gave me, I guess! 🤣 )

Some of yours are also just a bit "mean looking " my friend . In case you didn't know . :p

seems to me David, your serrations might fair okay on spyderco s30v hardness........

I can't see the teeth breaking off easily, unless used to go after something that would chip the edge anyways, as a plain edge.

only 1 way to find out though....do it and see what happens.....

I remember when Spyderco released their folding Pukko-like knife in S30V. It had a zero grind which they later had to change to a microbevel due to many complaints about chipping. It seems an unforgiving steel in very thin edges, at least back then. Maybe things have improved?
