i bought a deluxe tinker new at a show and the main blade is serrated 3/4towards the tip. I have never seen one like this. Could this be a european model or something. Its really sharp too! Anyone ever seen one like this??

I don't know about the Deluxe Tinker but to my knowledge, all the Victorinox one-handed opening models (with thumb hole) and some of the other models with locking blades come with serrated main blades. Also, a number of Wenger models feature a serrated main blade.

I have never seen a deluxe tinker serrated but would be interested in learning more about it.

I don't know about Victorinox but this page from an old Wenger catalog (in Spanish) shows the serrated and partially serrated blades as options on at least one model (the "Standard/2"):

well it does say victorinox but forgive me the serrations are towards the base of the blade not the tip

I know that, for while, there were some serrated Vics, one version was the Tinker. There were three in the 'Mountain' series (one of the three in the series was name McKinley, the other Matterhorn, I forget the other). I'm not sure if the Deluxe Tinker was in the series. I suppose UnknownVT will straighten things out in a bit.

Hateman is right about the "mountain" series. The serrated version of the Deluxe Tinker was called the Matterhorn.

I have a One Handed trekker, and the blade is serrated towards the front half with the back half normal.

Works good too, because when I cut wood I always use the back of the blade not the tip.

I'm a PROUD member of the school of thought that this set-up (serrations up front) IS the proper blade design rather than what prob'ly 98% of knives manufactured today have. The post above only confirms this.

Vic has made a few models like that. I cant remember the models off the top of my head though. I dont hink they are particularly rare but the plain edge just out number the serrated by quite a wide margin.

As has been mentioned, the usual serrated ones now are the one-hand models with the serrations in the front.

I think Vic made a standard non-locking model called the Fieldmaster with a serrated blade, somebody correct that if I am wrong. I dont know if its still made or not, but I think its the first model I remember that was serrated.
