Serrating and old blade

I'm kinda new to knives. What I'd like to do is serrate a 7 1/2" blade. Is this possible? If so, where can I get it done and about how much would it cost?

I appreciate any help.

To serrate a blade you have to file/grind parallel groves into the edge.If it is not hardened,do this - Take a chain saw file of the size you want and make the first groove.Tape a piece of brass rod the same size as the file to the file.Place the brass in the grove you made and file the next grove.....repeat as needed. If it is a hardened blade you could use a diamond file, but it would be slow going. To touch up the edges after hardening you will need a diamond file or ceramic rod.

I presume, since you called it an old blade, that it is hardened. Valtitan makes a very good set of needle files that are the hardest I've ever seen at RHC 73. They will cut hardened blade steel quite nicely. You can often find them on Ebay or they are available on my web site as well. The set of six is great for serrating or for decorative filing on the spine.

I'll be honest, me with a file is a fairly scary prospect. Would it be possible to get a professional to do it?
