I have an old serrated police model that has seen lots of use over 20 years and the serrations are worn. I realize that the older serrations were not ground as high as the newer versions but I would like the blade back to original. Has anyone ever returned a knife to spyderco for a serration re-do?

thanks
dave

This doesn't answer your question about Spyderco doing serration sharpening, but there is an article in the May 2004 edition of Blade magazine by Wayne Goddard about this topic. He recuts some very badly worn serrations using a 220 grit paper wrapped around a push stick. Interesting read.

Josh,

Thanks for the info, I'll have to read that article.
I'm normally pretty handy, but since this folder has some collector & sentimental value, I'm hoping spyderco can help me so I don't ruin it.
Regrinding the serrations is a bit too advanced for me.

thanks

Dave, I had the same problem with an old GIN1 Native 35/65 that I had picked up at a trade market. The serrations were pretty beat up because of the previous owners' novice attempt at sharpening them.

I called Mike(Warranty&Repair at 800-525-7770) and explained the situation and from what I remember, I sent a $10 money order($5 for regrounding/reprofiling the edge, $5 for return shipping) along with the Spydie back to Spyderco for some reprofiling of the serrations. The Spydie crew did a great job on it because when I got it back, about a week later, it looked as good as new.

Give Mike a call, I'm sure that he'll take care of you. ;)

Good Luck

I agree, call them and get the 411 on how ot get it fixed. I had some repair work on the serrations on my old Rescue. I sent it back to them and they kept the knife and sent me a brand new one! I couldn't believe it! I have never seen anything like that in any other company. Great service and superior products!
