Serrations on my new Ka-Bar

I recently bought a new Ka-Bar, partially serrated, and I have a question. The serrations are like none I've ever seen--they're rounded off, not pointed like every other serrated knife I've ever seen. Why so? Is this on purpose? Should I try to sharpen the individual teeth into points? (I bought it so recently, that I haven't had the chance to try it out, so I couldn't even tell you how the serrations perform as is.)

My friend has a next generation ka-bar with the same serrations and man does it cut, much better than others in my opinin flies through rope and wood like a dream. Geoff.

i have an old marine ka-bar, and the serrations cut rope very quickly, and help when cutting branches off trees too.
