Serrations or no?

If you had a PE dragonfly, would you get partial serrations on an all black tenacious? Or a PE tenacious...?

Personally, I don't like combo edges. And for the most part I'm not a big fan of serrations, but Spyderco is the one company whose serrations I trust. So while almost all my blades are PE, I have a couple full SpyderEdge knives (Harpy, Stainless Police, Tasman Salt).

So, IMO, I'd go for PE Tenacious.

I tend to agree with the other Brother about combo edges. There are not too many jobs to where I've found combo edges have an advantage. Although I do own some Spyderco combo edged blades I've had for years and on occasion I do use them. Usually when I need a serrated blade I mostly go for a full Spyderedged blade and most of the time a full Spyderedged Hawkbill does the trick well.

But most of the time nowadays I'm using either full plain edge or full Spyderedge on most of my cutting jobs. Now combo edges do have their place and I am glad that Spyderco makes them available but usually it's not enough teeth to get me by.

I do urge you to try out one of Spyderco's great Hawkbill blades in full SE. If you have big cutting jobs that require SE blades I would recommend to go with either the Police or Endura models in full SE.

If you are opting for a shorter blade like the Dragonfly then I would go either full PE or full SE. Because the only time I get any benefit from a combo blade is on a longer blade. I find short combo edged blades very hard to work with.

Combo edges are ok depending on your uses and how long the blade is. I agree with JD that they are pretty useless on a short blade. If you have a 3" combo then you can still do plenty with the 1.5" pe, but 1.5" of se just isn't much to work with. Could be better than nothing though depending on the scenario. I also believe that a lot of folks don't like the way they look so never even consider them based just on that.

Bottom line is that combos exist for a reason and though many (including myself) aren't huge fans, they have their uses. I could definitely see a maintenance/handy man who only wanted to carry one blade using a combo. Pipe, fabric, heavy tape, hose, drywall...there are a lot of things that a pe knife doesn't cut that well. Not everyone wants to go fully serrated, and not everyone wants to carry two knives (like I do). I'd say if you like it and see yourself using it, go for it.

Edit: this post got me thinking. I would like to see a combo edge with like 2/3 serrated and 1/3 pe. Call it a combo with a little extra se, or call it full serrated with a little extra pe...Whatever. i think it would be more functional than a 50/50 combo edge.
