i am looking at a esee 4 as a backup blade to my bk2 and am wondering wether i should get serrations or a fine edge. i will be using this knife for bushcraft/survival

I would go with the serrated for that use. Normally I don't like serrated edges for EDC as a good plain edge will do for anything I need, but when it comes to a survival knife the versatility of having serrations is plus.

Plain edge all the way.

Serrations are not useful for that sort of application..atleast in my expirience.

Easy field sharpening for plain edge (easy sharpening in general) etc.

as long as its not your only tool, then I agree with Nader about the fine edge because of ease of sharpening.

I personally find serrations are not well suited to the fine carving done in "bushcraft" tasks. And the placement of them is in the sweet spot on the blade that I use most.

I hate serrations. I've never found a good use for them that a plain edge can't do just as well. And, I HATE sharpening serrations. So, I no longer own any knives with serrations. Did I mention I hate serrations?
