Serration's

Don't know eigther, the one time I put serations on a knife was with a couple of round file, followed by wraping sandpaper on the files.

You might be able to get the right sized stone for a dremel. I think they even have some dymonde coated stones.

Will's right, I hadn't thought of that. HF sells a set of diamond-coated burrs for $6 that would work. I have a set and they've lasted a very long time and still going strong. There are enough shapes you might come up with some really fresh serration pattern!

I went to www.Spyderco.com and looked
go there and
look at
Product ID: 400F1R
and see if they will work for you.

I checked that item out, but that's not what I need. Someone emailed me and said that Mike Turber (original bladeforum.com owner) used to sell them. I working on that lead now.

I do appreciate you for taking the time to post this.

Thanks,
A.T.

A.T., I had a catalog from a company that makes cutlery grinders for the industry, big unit with counter rotating wheels inside. You put your blade blank in a slot and pulled it towards you while in contact with these wheels. Anyway, this same company sold grooved AO wheels for doing serrations in blades. They had about three styles of serrations.
I went through my filing cabinet from A-Z, couldn't find it. I no doubt threw it out as of little use, figures.
Maybe someone has contact info for this, or a similar place.
Sorry. :(

Don't worry about it. I guess, if push comes to shove, I can do it the old-fashioned way, with files.

Thanks again,

I was in the local hardware store...when I got the idea....what about a key making machine? After looking at one,....I think they could be used very easily for making serrations.....or even duplicating serrations....or resharpening your own "proprietary" design.

Just like making a spare key for the front door.

whatta ya think?

Rob, good thought... I once had the idea of doing the same sort of set up for a filework machine... just making up some blanks with the different patterns and using the machine to duplicate them... Maybe a dual purpose machine could be made?

A T, i know you can use a wide cratex wheel in a coarse grit and shape your serations right into the surface of the wheel, then just apply your blade at the proper angle and voila! I assume a beartex or scotchbrite convoluted wheel would work also, but I am not so sure about how to shape them, perhaps a shaped carbide cutter. I am aware they sell diamond impregnated wheels for serating knives, but they are rather pricey if i remember right, and you have to be carefull of heat build up on a fully heat treatted blade, they build up heat rather fast...

Just some ideas...

AT,

I got your email :)

I am thinking about selling some more. I may bring the wheel to the Blade Show to show makers how I do it (under 10 seconds). The wheel will run about $500 +/- a bit depending on the pattern you want.

Call me at 1-800-969-7771 for more info.
