I have had a few requests lately about doing some serration work. I want to stay away from hand checkering and file serrations. I remember years ago Mike Turber had posted pictures of a diamond wheel that he used to put serrations on a few of his Microtechs. Does anyone have any leads to where I could purchase a diamond serration wheel. I have a Wilton Square Wheel that I would like to mount it too if at all possible. Thanks in advance.

Might try searching the archives for the general forum. I remember the threads your talking about, I think he was offereing it as a service. It had to be done to straight sections of the blade only couldn't do curves. There might be contact info for the company he got it from.

I don't know how the square wheel grinder is set up, but if its like most belt grinders I don't think you could put the diamond wheel on. Least not in the same place your contact wheel goes, nothing would turn it since there's no belt. Would have to go on the drive pulley/wheel.

I've done a few serrated knives by hand. Yes it is a huge pain in the ass and its hard to make it look nice, but there is one thing going for it. Serrations you make by hand are serrations you can sharpen by hand. Some of those factory/machine made serrations just don't seem to work with any stone/rod/sharpener out there.

I think I remember people having success with the small size sanding drums you can get for dremels too. They seem to be a little large, but I haven't tried it yet, would definitely cut down on the work a little. Could also be possible to get a diamond burr thats the right size.

Just another thought. If you have a milling machine, I bet you could put serrations in with it, if you can figure out the right angle and how to get it set up. I doubt I could, but the thought of just cranking the cutter in, out and then over a few times sounds a lot better than any of the alternatives. I don't have a mill though so I don't know how realistic that is
