Well, I took the plunge! I've been reading about Busse knives for better than a year, and I finally decided I had to have one. Ironically, I now have two.
I ordered a Battle Mistress from Busse Combat and was excitedly anticipating its arrival to use on a five day trip into the woods. The finishing of the product took just a hair longer than expected and it did not ship at the expected time. That's OK. These things happen in the world of custom knives.
While checking on the order, I mentioned my upcoming trip to Dave (in sales) and he made a suggestion that would correct the situation and get me my knife right away. In fact, Jerry Busse called me as well and made the same suggestion. He was very amiable, and seemed genuinely interested in making sure I was happy with what I received and the service that I got from his shop. I'm not sure whether to go into the details of what he did for me, because I don't want to lock him into that extraordinary effort all of the time. And, I do consider what he and his people did an extraordinary effort. They took the steps to make sure I got my new Battle Mistress in time for my trip, and I loved using it while I was out. I can't describe how impressed I was by the performance of this blade, but that's for another post.
My intent here was to thank Jerry and his staff for their outstanding effort in making sure that I was satisfied. I was particularly impressed because this was my first purchase. It wasn't like I was a long-time or mass quantity purchase. I was just an ordinary Joe parting with some hard-earned $$$. But, his commitment to service impressed me so much that I went ahead and ordered a Natural Outlaw as well. I am now the owner of two Busses knives, and not just one. Jerry's got a customer for life with me.
In this day and age, it is sad to think that customer service is just a slogan rather than a way of doing business with most companies. That's not the case with Busse Combat. Without exaggeration, I can say that the treatment and service I got from his shop has exceeded any that I received from any other company with whom I have ever done business.
Thanks Jerry and Dave for the great service and the trust you put in someone you didn't know.
Now, I'm wondering if I can get them to make something along the lines of the Bolo, but with a 12-14 inch blade. What kind of kicking and screaming would that entail?
To everyone else who has been thinking and drooling over one, go ahead, take that leap of faith. Between the quality of the knives and the quality of the people, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
