I used my knife to cut some steak a couple of weeks ago and now there's some rust forming on the blade and in the joint. Along with the great folks at Plaza Cutlery (where I bought the knife--XM18, 3" slicer), we tried some Flitz but couldn't get it all, especially couldn't get in to the pivot.
So I'd like to have it taken apart and cleaned. I wrote Rob Orlando and he replied:
"We do not offer a cleaning or maintenance service, those issues would be user serviceable."
He then followed up:
"Here is a link to dis-assembly info, including a video so you can flitz the area that you cannot reach: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ing-Dis-assembly-Re-assembly-*Text-amp-Video* I thought it had pasted into my earlier email.
Regards,
Rob"
I replied:
"I heartily thank you for all of this. But there is a problem. As the result of a rare spinal cord disease (Transverse Myelitis) I am a hemiplegic in a wheelchair. My left side is paralyzed, with only limited use of my hand on that side. I looked over the video and it looks like I need two hands to perform this task. Which I don't have."
He replied,
"I will be in contact down the road when we can fit it in. We're slammed with show prep for the next few weeks."
I also checked with Plaza Cutlery about doing this, but they have never worked on these knives.
So I was wondering: is there anyone out there who has worked on Hinderers and would take this on for a reasonable fee?
My thanks,
Bob
