Hey guys, I'm new to the site and used this site for reference when looking for some custom knives to be made for my upcoming wedding. I just got them in from Lacy Smith @ smith-knives.com and I just wanted to post some pics of them as I am very pleased with the collection.

Here are 4 of them with sheaths which were made in KY

Here are all 8 knives.

Here is the custom filing that highlights some of the layered Damascus:

This is the grooms knife (mine!), that is a little different than the others. The filing on the blade is different and the handle has a thin blue liner.

A little more about the knives and Mr. Lacy Smith:
These are hand made in Jacksonville Al. I was looking for a unique high quality groomsman gift that could be appreciated and passed down. I though about custom knives and began the search for blademakers in the SouthEast/AL. I spoke to Mr. Smith and we agreed on a design and the price was quite reasonable because I was purchasing a complete set, and he even did a few extras like filing the backside of the blade and including sheaths and T shirts.

Each knife has the makers logo on the blade and the sheaths are tagged with a serial# that coordinates with a certificate of authenticity. I liked the blade design of this Persian Skinner as it has a good length, and the handle is big enough to provide a good grip (with pinky resting in the end notch).
I chose a few different wood types to make them a bit more unique.

Info from the Certificate of Authenticity:
Persian Skinner
416 layered Alabama Damascus Steel (203E, 15N20, 52100, 5160) <- I'm not quite sure what all these #s mean, if anyone can help with that please reply.
Handle woods: Cocobolo (light and dark shades), Red Heart, Bubinga
Brass Pins
Sheath: leather Sherry Lott (KY) #3

I will be passing these out at the wedding rehearsal steak dinner and look forward to the reactions of they guys, I'm sure they will be pleased! Thanks for looking!

Welcome to the forum and congrat's on the wedding. I think it's a great idea to pass out the knives.

Great gifts ..... I am sure they will be ecstatic. Ref your question ..... these are the steels used in Alabama Damascus blades ... the break-out is:

203E - low carbon, high impact, high nickel, mild steel alloy; 15N20 - band saw blade material; 52100 - ball bearing steel; 5160 - spring steel

Alabama Damascus is some pretty steel!

really kewl gifts and I hope they all enjoy having them for the dinner. Now, have a nice steak for everyone at the wedding and they will get to use them and show them off for all the guests and they can even cut the bridesmaids meat for them. Now it is really good that I was not the photographer for this wedding as I'd be paying more attention to the knives that to my photography. Then again, you could hide them till the reception but also, I have retired anyway.

Thats an awesome gift for the groomsmen. I might have to use the same idea since all mine would be guys that hunt and fish anyway. Sure beats the standard engraved flask and whatever else. Got any room for another groomsman? haha
