i have finished collecting the basic LB's. thought i would share what they look like all lined up in a nice row. the serial number on the LB 7 is 178625 which would put it around 1981?

also lined up all my LB 7's ( do you think i like them?) and thought i would share also. the interesting thing is the different shape of the blades, from the curve to the nail notch.
the serial numbers from left are 40611, 174938, 178625, E33364, T270, U2151, AA87370, and AW20136. this doesn't include my EDC which is a K3976.

Nice bunch of LB's there Del. Roland you are surely smitten with the LB7. How about a picture of your favorite one? :)

Nice collection. I'm a huge fan of bear paw family too. Schrade's "Ultimate Lockback" ads got under my skin when I was young. You watch TV show "Sons of Anarchy"? Just thought I'd ask. One character on show named "Opie" carries a LB-7. He uses it in gruesome fashion this season. Gave me a smile when he pulled it though. Even hollywood knows these knives are classic. Cheers!

O.K. guys, i'll do an LB7 round-up, but it will take a day or so. some of these critters are hiding where i left them.

Those are some beauties you got there. I like the LB7 too and the LB8. Speaking of LB7's I noticed some have four pins rather than three. Is the four pin design more sought after? I'm glad you noticed the differences in blade design too. I thought the notch was a good indication of a blade that was never re ground but now I know there was a curved type as well. Thanks for posting these awesome knives.

o.k. here are pics of most of my LB7s. there are more, on & around my work bench, awaiting inspection and cleaning.
this is not a high end collection, quite the opposite, in part because i like used knives for the sense of history they impart. all are from ebay, most have original sheaths, and most have been used, but all are 100% tight lock-up. rarely paid more than $20. that's why i have quite a few; can't pass up a good deal on one of the best user knives of all time.

some 4 pin knives:(from #53427 to L23088)

and 2 of the best, both NIB + "bling", one with org. price tag. #s 7898 & 53938:

i got 2 more last evening: "Made expressly for Hoffritz" and a black handled SCM5 which i think is an LB7. av. cost for these 2: $13.75.

I'm glad I'm not the only one... Nice collection Roland!!! Canadians have great taste lol. I just grabbed a mint '82-86 vintage LB-3 with black sheath to complete my version of what delma did. I'm gonna frame mint copies of these...

and hang them above a little table with exactly what's shown in the picture on it and yes that would make them "actual size" indeed. Obsessed? ...on and off since '82, Happily!

Roland,
Nice collection of LB7s there! Keep an eye out for the rest of those Service Commemoratives. They come up from time to time.

Also, on your "mystery" one there, at one time, Schrade came out with a set of lockbacks that included the LB7, LB5, and LB1 in a box with the red velvet plastic formed liner. They had black handles and nickle silver bolsters and liners with matching serial numbers. I suspect yours might be one of those that was liberated from the set.

it is my understanding the the difference in 4 pin to 3 pin is date of manufacture. the 4 pin was the earliest made and then round about Mxxxx or so they switched to 3 pin. the more knowledgieble among us can really make the serial number switch more exact.

I think I just bought an extra-minty set of these but it will be a while until I get them because I have to get them shipped to Cali and then forwarded to me in BC.

Roland and Dave, what are these "black" handles made of? Delrin? Wonda Wood? Stained wood? Ebony?

Sure looks like a mint set. I'm pretty sure they are wooden, but they do look dark.

Dave,
Im pretty certain the handles are black micarta. I know theyarent wood in that set. Nice snag!

Shows you the extent of my knowledge. I just have one with redwood handles. :foot:

Roland when are you going to host a cutting party? :D
