Ok so after the last few weeks going in and out of this forum I have picked up a BK9 and placed the order last night for a BK2 and an EsKabar. So I got to thinking. I want to put together new set up including a Becker, Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel, and an altoid tin kit. I was thinking of using the BK2 with the shovel. Of course I get to try my hand at bending kydex but I think a Bladric rig made of paracord is in order for this set up. The knife should be in next week as for the shovel. My thinking behind this set up is while you can chop with the BK2 the slight sharpened edge of the shovel should work great while also giving you a way to dig if need be. The kit may end up being a bit bigger than an altoid tin. I like Derek's box, that thing is great. Oh well enough thinking out loud, what do you guys think? I know I could just carry the BK9 and have a chopper but I was thinking of making this like a truck set-up/ impromptu hiking rig. All comments are welcome. If you think its not a good Idea let me know why. It seems pretty good if you ask me. Ramble on...

I used to be a big Cold Steel fan, but I have turned into one of their biggest haters. I can't stand them. I sold off just about all of my CS knives, with the exception of a few odds and ends, a Rifleman's Hawk and the same shovel you have.

The shovel is a cool piece of gear that I keep in my car. I've been trying to think of a way to work it into a backpack rig. If you get the sheath for the shovel, I would look into attaching some kind of pouch to it. That way you are still staying small and portable, but you have increased your real estate for gear to much more than a tin.

Keep us posted on what you come up with.

Those shovels are freakin awesome. They're wicked choppers, at least as good, if not better than a hawk for about the same weight, and far more useful otherwise. Sounds to me like you're going to have a solid kit put together. Post pics

Ok taking what sqoon said I have decided to have local shop order me a Maxpedition FR1 pouch or something similar. Now my kit is going to be basic but there will be a bit of redundancy. The main thing I want to cover are fire, navigation, FAK, SAK, some sort of sharpening implement, cordage, emergency signaling, flashlight and batteries, and anything else I can pack in this bad boy. I would like to find a small tarp or tough plastic sheeting that may fit. Just thinking out loud again.
