I am here to speak my peace about You Tom
I as a question and maybe you were a
little short with me,or maybe I took it the wrong way.I don not want to get of on the
wrong foot, you are a great knife maker
a I admire your work.so I am here to
say I have no hard feelings towards you
and have gotten nothing but help on the fourm
and I say thank you to everyone. If I have
acted pushy in the past with a question
with any one who has came in contact with me
I am here to humble my self and say I am sorry! Nathan

This is a good thing...I want you, and everyone else to know...that I said NOTHING to criticize you, or your knife picture; you just took it that way....and I cant help that. You sent me a list of at least 10 questions and I tried to answer them the best I could. From that point on you were irritated with me and made sure that I knew it with every email.....I want to be at peace with everyone (except maybe Tim
smile.gif
) including you....but if you cannot keep your emails civil and in the spirit of this forum you wont get a response from me, as has been for the last few weeks.....learning how to make knives well is a LONG SLOW process, unless your name is Ken Onion or Tim Herman, who seem to have some sort of help from on High....I have been making knives for over 18 years and still have lots to learn... I would love to be able to make some really classy art daggers and bowies and lock back folders...but there is no one around here to give me any pointers....and when it gets down to the nitty gritty of a lot of this stuff...doing it is the only way anyone is ever going to learn....no matter how many questions you ask on this forum....good luck in your endeavors.....the only place I know where to find blackwood is from Gilmers Wood in Oregon....you can totally trust him to send you knife handle quality, just make sure you let him know you are a knifemaker. He stashes the best stuff.....aloha...tom/lets please let this thread stop here....I know that no one is interested in this and we need to move on.

Tim, I'll gladly provide you with a ticket to the sunny gator and skeeter infested florida panhandle to teach me to make folders. Do you prefer greyhound or trailways????

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel
Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms!!!

Has anyone considered that maybe Tom was having a bad day? It happens to all of us on occasion, more so as I get older. He has always gone out of his way to answer any of the questions I've e-mailed him. There are times when a maker such as Tom can get snowed under with e-mail and it takes away from his shop time, thus his income. Hell, give the guy a break!!!
Tom

Hi Nathan,

I remember someone telling me once that knifemaking is a marathon race and not a sprint and you must train hard. Before this forum I had bunches of questions and like you I wanted all the answers asap. All I really had were the magazines and books to read. I did find one common thread among alot of the original handmade knife guys is that they always remarked that they had nobody to ask questions or show them how to do a grind, etc. Just think how great you could become with all this experience someone else has paid for in hard work, failures and successes.(be greatful) Most are legends in the knife community. Guess what I am trying to say is that we (knifemakers) have a real advantage to use their knowledge and this great forum(still can't believe it's free) and our God given talents to be great knifemakers. All the best things in life take time and the reward is sweeter when it is earned.
Hope this will help you cause it took a lot of years for me to figure it out.

All the best
Scott
