hey everyone....i don't know how stupid of a question this is but how do u set up your shop?.....my main question is where do u put your grinder, oven, forge?.....i have a detached garage that i am making into a shop.....it has one window.....do i want natural light in front of my grinder for instance?......

i am having an electrician come tomorrow to look at my electricity and see about getting two 220 outlets for a grinder and oven.....i don't know yet if i am limited to where he can put the plugs but i have to figure out where i want everything....any tips anyone can give me?....i have no idea what i am doing to be honest....i appreciate any advice.....ryan

In a kitchen they talk about a triangle between the stove, refrigerator and sink
Keep those close to keep the mileage down walking between them...

In my experience, I walk between the
bench top (with vise and drill press)
Grinder
and tool cabinet with measuring tools, hand tools and supplies in.

I want my natural light at the bench top and vise, where hand finishing, measuring, eyeballing...
needs the best light.

and I have lots of lights all over...over 40 and going blind it seems.

natural lighting is most important for the bench. If you can put in more windows and skylights, do so!

Grinder as close to one side of the garage door opening (if you have one) as possible.

forge as close to the other side of the garage door opening as possible.

bench near window, more benches and cabinets everywhere else. Drill press needs a stand. don't put it on a bench. Disc sander? oven? wide belt sander for wood?

My grinder is right beside my drill press. The oven (arriving Friday) will be directly across from the grinder. The bandsaw is about 10" from the grinder. My shop is really small, but I can get to things quickly. You want as much light as possible. I have 4 double 8" lights, and it's still not enough.
