Setting up an AWL in a press?

Just curious have any of you guys set up a stitching awl in a press? Like a little arbor press or a drill press?

I've seen em chucked in a drill press, but haven't heard of an arbor press being used. I am intrigued though! I could be very possible to do.

If you use a diamond awl in a drill press, you would have a problem with the drill press chuck, which could spin slightly even though you don't turn it on if you're going through several layers of leather. So, your diamond pattern would not be consistent hole after hole. If you use a round awl, a drill press would be no problem.

With a diamond awl, you want to make sure each and every hole is on a consistent angle, as well as the spacing between holes, otherwise your stitch line would look like crap when finished.

If you can chuck your diamond awl in a press that would have a fixed head, you'll get consistent holes as long as you're holding the leather consistently on the same angle as your fixed point, hole after hole.

Have you ever looked into a diamond leather stitching chisel ? Very consistent and easy to use. They are made in various sizes and number of chisel points per chisel.

There's many videos on Youtube showing how to use diamond chisels.
