After looking over the catalogue and reviews I've decided on a first Benchmade purchase.
My local store has the full lineup so going in next week and will be purchasing the Griptilian 551, black scales, satin blade.
Looks like it might be a good choice to begin with this line of knives.

I've been reading a bit and not sure if it holds any credibility or not but is there an issue with them not being all that sharp out of the box (benchmade knives)? Or is it like any other brand and occasionally quality control slips and you get the odd one?

thanks,
Sean

Excellent choice. All of the BMs that I've received were sharp enough out of the box. Eventually you'll need to sharpen it anyway.

Thanks fellas appreciate your replies. I didn't really want to spend a whole lot of $ right
off the hop.

It's one of the best bang for the bucks on the market. Money well spent.

Congrats on your first BM purchase and I'm sure you will not be disappointed

I recently got my first benchmade, a 710, and while it was extremely sharp, it was a real ugly, "dull looking" edge. I managed to shave the end of my pinky off playing with the Axis lock. No blood but it was a little tender for a few days. I love the knife and I have fixed the edge now
