Hey guys! I just wanna know, have you guys ever settled for a knife you really want in a finish or handle that you don't particularly like?? and if so does it still satisfy your knife urge???
Example: I've been wanting a Benchmade mini Rukus in plane edge satin finish. I finally found a mini rukus for sale but it's black blade partially serrated! So I'm a little afraid that if I get it I won't enjoy it as much as what I really wanted!! Let me know you're guys' take on it

Usually once I am set on buying something. That is what I go for. I may buy something else cheaper, while I save back some other money. I say wait and really get what you want. But if you think this will satisfy then go for it!

It all depends on how much you dislike the feature that you're getting. For example, if my grail knife popped up(Dustin Turpin Logic) tomorrow in exactly the finish and style I wanted, but had added serrations. I would not touch it. But, on the other hand, I'm waiting on a Socom Elite M/A in black/stonewash that I would have absolutely loved in green. Only you can say if you would be disappointed buying a knife that isn't exactly as you want it to be depending on how much you dislike said unwanted features :)

If you're having enough doubts to start a thread about it, it sounds like you'd be unhappy if you got it. If the knife you're looking at isn't exactly what you want, I'd say wait. There's always other knives that one does want, and you can always get those first! The dream knife you're talking about will pop up eventually, patience is a virtue - or so they tell me!

in my opinion, a plain edge, satin finnish knife, and a knife with a coated blade and partially serrated edge, are two completely different knives. regardless of design or materials. you may like it, or you may not. personally, i try not to get my heart set on a particular configuration, so long as its still plain edge. i got a partial edge sebenza with micarta inserts once and was pretty underwhelmed. a few months later i got a regular plain edge sebenza and i absolutly loved it.

I agree with Pialia on this one.
I wanted a Plain Jane Large Sebenza.
One with Tiger Eyes(Unique Graphic, so worth more) popped up for around the same price I was about to go pay for my Plain Jane at the local shop.
I was like "I can get this and I know I'll really like it because I do want a Sebenza."
Well, I waited and got the Plain Jane as it's the one I really wanted. I'm really glad I did as it's my favorite knife.
Had I settled and got the Tiger Eyes, I probably wouldn't have been as happy with it.

I have really wanted a Spyderco Military in Plain Edge 440V.
I've had several chances to get a Combo Edge or a Fully Serrated.
I don't really like serrations and would very much prefer Plain Edge.
I even saw one pop up for super cheap and it was Combo edge.
I could have settled, could settle, for one with serrations but I don't think I'd be truly happy with it and would end up getting rid of it in the long run.

I prefer satin/stonewash blades. But if I had to get a different color blade it wouldn't kill me.
However, if I can have serrations now, or wait for Plain Edge, I'll wait.

It really depends on what you can live with.

I would take the black blade and be happy, but the serrated blade would kill the deal for me.

PS The black powder coat will wear off with time and use the serrations are there forever.

Nah, everytime I try to settle it ends up costing me more in the long run. Hold out it will make it worth that much more.

One time I was looking for a specific benchmade in black coating plain edge and I did find but it got sold within the hour for a good price. Ever since i saw that knife I've never seen another for sale then looking harder, I found another one but same black blade but used and had serrations. I really hated serrations at the time. But the deal was even better than before. So I jumped on it and it is now my favorite knife in my collection! It guess it was just because I didnt have a use for serrations at the time but it has been an excellent work knife! So I'm glad I jumped on mine! You never know you may like it. I try to find the good in things so I guess that helped.

Did it once. Ended up selling the knife at a loss. If the pocketclip would've been switchable I'd still own that knife. Damn Böker and their unswitchable pocketclips. I friggin LOVE a lot of their designs. But if I can't carry it in the lefthand pocket I'll end up not carrying it at all.

I'm just calling it a €50 lesson.
