Bought a RR1661 Lockback Black Cherry Bone from Chicago KW for $7.69. Had 2 nice surprises. First, it has black underliners, a feature not mentioned in the description. Also has what I take to be a lanyard attachment pin recessed between the left bolsters. Whatever it is I like it! Everything looks nice but....the scales are higher than the bolsters in all 4 transitions. Using a feeler gauge I estimate the ridges to be from 0.05 to 0.10mm. Any advice on how to eliminate these poor transitions. I have looked online but have found no relevant info. I have included a few pics, plus one showing the "lanyard attachment pin [see left side of photo]. Thanks!

Better the transitions be too proud than sunken. If they bother you sand them. If the finish after sanding bothers you, polish.

Yeah I have rounded off the rough Ryder's I kept. Great knives but they just needed a little love. I do all the hard edges or sharp liner edges like this:

Hit it with 400 grit until it's where you want it. Switch to 600 and hit it til the deeper scratches are gone. Grey scotchbrite after that. Then a bit of red rouge on a buffing wheel.

Thanks Rick. I will give that a shot. I find RR fit & finish to generally be very good. This one just has the transition issue.

Lithicus, Good point about the scales being proud rather than contracted. I can't say they bother me, but I do want to know how to fix the issue and apply that fix, and now i know how thanks to Rick.
