Yesterday, a friend who i asked to makes for me knives for my project sent me pictures.
I made the design base on Dayak Tribe's utility knife. This traditional pattern has size from several centimeters to about 45cm.
The middle is the traditional knife of Dayak

I sent my design to my friend on mid of September 2012.
Here is his progress on December 2012.
Material is D2 and mysterious steel (from
bearing). D2 is the one with blue paint.

Overall about 8"
Handle: the reddish one is amboyna burl, the other is tamarind burl.
Every single design has two blades with two different steel

My first plan was only make knives from one design (similar to knife #3 in A and B group). There will be 9 knives of three groups. Each group will have three different steels. But it changed due to miscommunication.
So, we then end up with two groups in 2 different steels

But the main idea still able to implement, i asked two volunteera to do the reviews to all design and they will have no idea the type of the steel.
The one who did better review will get knife #4.
One of it will go to a Dayak who asked our help to establish a simple workshop for his group.
They try to keep their skills on blacksmithing. They live in the upper Barito River, days from our place.
We gave them few simple tools. They made spears for hunting and also mandau, a local type of machete/sword.
They made for me a nice mandau, the only mandau in this world which has hilt carved with an orangutan. It is because i work for orangutan conservation.
Will post my mandau later.
The other will give to friends as gift and one or two i will keep it for myself.
For design #3 on group A and B, i have asked Ben Orford to make one, via my friend. It will made from O1.

Well done Sir. Nice knives, I like the handle on #2 also, the 'swoop" or dip at the back top of the handle appeals to me.
Keep up the good work and post the reviews if you would?
