Several new mods to my BK9 sheath (with a big surprise built in!)

Just finished doing some modifications to the BK9 sheath. First I removed the plastic insert for the Remora. I dont have one, and it gives me extra space in the front pouch. The Ritter survival tin is all about firestarting, and has lots of stuff in it. Behind that in the front pouch I have an EZ-LAP credit card sized diamond hone.

I find wearing the sheath on the belt you are using to hold up your pants is a pain in the ass. Therefore, I picked up a nylon web belt from the local surplus store as a permanent part of the sheath.

Now the best part: The built in full-sized spear head! I took a Cold Steel Warhead and cut the belt loop part of the sheath off. Then I removed the grivory handles. Lastly I lined it up to the back of the BK9 sheath and attached it with my favorite Loctite Super Glue. The added width is minimal and you barely notice the extra weight. Now you got a real Survival Bonus built in!

I also have some nylon accessory cord I bindle up tight and strap on the bottom of the sheath with a ranger band. 3 of the 5 "C's" (Cutting Tool, Cordage, and Combustion) in one nice package!

Brother, that is a nice setup, and very well thought out. That spear concept is primo work and original. Me likes.

I gotta figure something out for my BK9, I done some chopping tonight, getting a romantic fire and drinks date for tomorrow night, should be beneficial ;):D

The 9 tore through 3" seasoned hardwood, like it wasn't there. I chopped with my 9, 7, 2, and my FBF machete. The 'chete whooped ass. 9 done it all though, chopped, split, and whittled. I played with the 7 some, just enought to get a nice blister from the micarta. Micarta gone now, its on the 5.

I really like the grivory, for those tuning in, be sure and give the grivory a chance, it saves the hand. I'm gonna be modding my 7 this weekend, get rid of the ramp, strip it, and I'm thinking a new patina style, get away from the tiger stripe, maybe not, we'll see.

Anyhoo, great work on the 9 sheath kit, one of the best I've seen.

Thanks Moose! Will take more detailed pics tomorrow, didn't have time to show it really fleshed out.

Really nice work C Tanner. And as moose said, very well thought out. I've been thinking of some mods myself for my BK2 sheath. Anyways, again, great job.

I like it! Looks like you might be able to ranger band something on the front area under the existing pouch, maybe an altoids tin or smaller type of thing for extra stuff. Always down with extra stuff.

That's where I'm ranger banding 50' of bankline (120lb test tarred cord) once it arrives.

I also shortend the strap on the pouch. If you want to add a second pouch in the space under the built in one, one of my fave survival supply stores (google survival resources) has nylon Velcro pouches for the altoids sized tin (and blank tins) you could superglue to the sheath. I'd put some 2' modded leader snares and bankline in that one.

MOAR STUFF!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I loves more stuff man. Loves it. Where did you get the bankline if you don't mind my asking? (Or tarred twisted nylon twine for our brethren that are not familiar with the stuff.)

Dave Canterbury sells it on his site, so being the natural middle-man-cutter-outer I went sniffing for the source. Pretty sure this is it because it is half the price.
