Sewing machine help.

I just got a lead on 3 leather sewing machines for sale by a lady who used to make saddles and is selling her sewing machines. Any advice on what to look for when I go to her house on Saturday, would be appreciated. What brands are good and what to look for as far as accessories would be appreciated. Thanks.

Wow!! If you can get em cheap and don't want all three, let me know how much they are, Marcel. That is a big find!!!

the main things to look for: Plenty of throat clearance. Like on a regular singer machine is really good....MAKE SURE YOU CAN GET PARTS!!!!! make sure you can get parts!! on those old machines this is VERY important. Make sure it will handle heavy thread...and make sure it has a decent motor... although that is not super important as thats probably the cheapest part. ask her to give you a demo...ask her if she has parts....lots of those saddle maker types have drawers full of parts... get as many parts, spindles, and other accessories as you possibly can.

She has at least 3 machines. I want one for myself and that will leave two available. I will go down on Sat.morning to look at them. I believe one of them is a post sewing machine and I don't yet know what the others are. I will try to buy the whole bunch and any accessories and will post them as available. As far as I am concerned, if I get them all I will keep one and anybody who wants one can get it for my cost. I have gotten so much from everyone on this forum, that I would feel like I am giving something back. Thanks for the advice and I will let you know what happens.

Count me in if you want to sell one. I have been looking for a long time. I have a list of some machines that were recomended to me .Could scan it and send a copy if you're interested
