Hey, I'd like to be there and meet all of you, but I coach football at one of the local High Schools here, and it's that time again! hs

I'd love to make it, but I have a class that night. Gee, is Jim going to bring his Sifu or not?

We could be there for a while...
And classes always get out early on the first day...

Just a quick check: You guys DO know that knives and the like are prohibited on the SFSU campus, right? I had a friend who was teaching an eskrima class there last year and the campus police told him to make sure that any and all sticks/knives/etc. were NOT plainly visible when going about the open areas of the campus. So, of course, be prepared accordingly - heavy/loaded down duffles might just indicate that you're especially studious fellows!

Actually, state law allows all state-legal folders, and fixed blades under 2.5" on campus.

But school rules only allow folders with blades under 5".

So knives and the like are not prohibited on SFSU Campus.

Oooookay, hold it right there.

I suggest finding another site just off campus. Round Table Pizzas generally have a back meeting room available free to any group, or can section off a group of tables.

Put simply, I *can* get off work in Berkeley that day at 4:00pm and head that way...but Sifu#1 is daily carry, and it's .5" over.

I'm not going on that school with it, or with any of the neat fixed specimens I can pack along in a bag.

OK? This is the WRONG place.

Jim

Hi Jim,

Just sent you mail regarding this event. Please let me know what you think.

Jerome

I stand corrected.

Well, wherever you end up having this shindig, I hope you folks have a good time!

OK, the meeting will take place at my apartment (ten minutes walk from SFSU, in the Outer Sunset district of San Francisco, just off of 19th Ave). Those of us who will be on campus at SFSU on Wednesday can meet me at the benches in front of the library at, say, 5:10 pm this Wed, 8-30. I am 23, white, 5'5", long brown hair, black clothes - jeans, boots, jacket, spikey metal jewelry, might be wearing dark sunglasses, will probably be smoking a cigarette. Those of us meeting there will then walk back to my apartment in Parkmerced. If you will want to get some toys out of your car, get them first or park somewhere in Parkmerced, as the parking lots and structure are on the other side of campus. (If you have swords or other items that you really don't want to carry, keep them in your car and we can drive them back to the apt.) For those who won't be on campus, you can come straight to my apartment, say between 5:45 and 6. Email for exact directions or with any other questions. And we can order a pizza or something if we want to. Feel free to bring anything you think we might want to see (knives and otherwise), if you're not sure, there's probably someone who'd be glad to see it.

Please email me to let me know who's coming, so we don't leave anybody behind on campus and we don't sit around waiting for someone who's not going to show.

And email ASAP (medusaoblongata@hotmail.com) with any questions.

"Yes, I'd like to report some suspicious activity. There's this white guy, about 5'5", with long brown hair wearing black jeans, boots, jacket, and spikey metal jewelry. At first, I saw him hanging around the S.F State campus.

Now he's leading a freakin' huge group of otherwise normal looking people into his apartment. I think he's holding some sort of 'cult meeting' or something - they're speaking in weird incantations, using words like 'Sebenza' and 'Sifu' and I'm very scared. Please send someone over immediately!"

Sorry I can't make tonight, guys. Hope you have a good time!

Hey folks, just got back from the event. I brought my meager knives with some food. 3-4 hours of fun, clicking, and passing the blade around.

I got a chance to see some blade I never saw before. Here's my take.

AFCK, smoothness making up for small Spyderhole. Thicker than I thought.
Nimravus cub, a bit smaller than I thought.
Osbourne, Axis lock is interesting.

Mad Dogs. Mirage X is smaller than I thought, I like the broadness of the blades though. The Operator is a bit slick and the kydex is very similar to the first run of Busse basics.

Microtechs, FUN! Mission MPK, nice broad blade, real powdery feel. Mission MPF, nice size with interesting lock. Fallkniven F1, I liked the thickness and look, could use a finger groove though.

Sifu, really nice hand grooves. Talonite Carnivore, handle was a bit smooth but grooves were great.

Emerson Specwar, La Griffe, CQC 7, smaller than I thought. Wave can be real dramatic. La Griffe sheath has nice snap to it.

CRKT M-16, mini KFF. The Carson Flipper is cool, the mini KFF's handle material seems too thin to me but has a great grip.

I found that a lot of the kydex sheaths were too thin for me, the belt attachments a little small. Overall, a great evening.

I really enjoyed the event. It was cool meeting everyone (EWOK, Smoke, medusaoblongota, Jim March, and JCHH). Also, I got to handle many cool knives including a titanium La Griffe, an Emerson SOFCK ( the Wave rocks! ), a Sifu, and more Microtechs than I could afford in a year! I look forward to the next meeting.

AA, it was good meeting all of you.

Few other bits.

Spydercard, the novelty left me after a few seconds. It's kind of ugly but slightly lighter than the JSP Credit Card cutter.

Chris Reeve Shadow (I believe). Nicer grip than expected but the leather blew me away. Best I've seen bar none.

Thanks to Jerome H, I've got a new found appreciation for larger handle folders in terms of thickness.
