Aloha ALL,
Well, my Sgt. showed me some pics recently of his hunts with the SFB Production Proto. I had loaned my SFB sample to him to test it, as he is an avid bow hunter and pretty much catches everytime he goes!
Shown here are some pics of him skinning a sheep. I was curious as to how something small like the SFB with a 3/16" thickness would fare during tasks such as skinning, caping, deboning, quartering and such. "Sgt. A" stated that it was one of the best knives for these applications. He told me it was also one of the few small FB's that he was able to use without putting it down on the ground, and he could use both hands while performing the task of skinning and such...holding flesh with both hands AND using the SFB to skin!
Edge retention was okay, and he said he'd touch up the SFB on his DiaFold every now and then. Without getting to "gross", I had asked if he was able to sever the head off of this sheep and Sgt. A told me he used the SFB to do EVERYTHING.
Whoa.
Now, be advised, Sgt. A (who at times is "LT. A" when the butterbars don't show for work
) is a seasoned veteran who could probably use an Xacto knife to gut and skin his catch, OR, being that he is built like a "He Man" doll, he could tear the skin off. (I asked him to "bareback" it in the pics, but he humbly declined, and I am NOT kidding about his build.) He also eats what he catches, just in case you were wondering or you work for PETA.
That being said, for him to say that the SFB was a great field knife, with the PERFECT size and blade shape, is truly an honor. Sgt. A is a no nonsense kinda guy...so if the SFB sucked, he'd have said so AND I would have the sample back by now!
I will give him a production Boker Plus version...whenever those come out.
I know this thread does not help in the wait for the SFB, but be advised that the SFB does work!!!
Mahalo much "Sgt.A" and God bless you all for checking this out!
