SFNO or NMSFNO?

I have a BATAC LE and a SJTAC (.22 width) and I'm looking for the next Busse either a SFNO or NMSFNO.

I really enjoy the TAC handles, but I'm looking for a knife a bit better for chopping, but wouldn't be too big for smaller tasks. The SH and BM handles curve down too sharply in the back for my hands which is why I'm looking at one of these two. Also, I figured with a straighter handles it would be easier to choke back a bit.

Can anyone give me an accurate blade length for both of these? I'm pretty sure they are both .22 thick. For example sjtac is supposed to be a 6" blade but is really closer to 6.5" when measured from the front of the handle.

Also, any opinions for machined slabs vs the hand shaped ones?
Thanks.

I would say... if you're going to be chopping with it the NMSFNO is probably a little better than the SFNO. It has an extra inch of blade. Mine has machined slabs, which are good enough, but I hear the hand-shaped feel better. My NMSFNO's blade is 8 3/16" from the handle to the point.

I agree.

I have a Jack Hammer & SJTac, Hell Razor (very similar to the SFNO which I used to have and may even start out as the same blank?) and an NMSFNO. If you have an SJTac and want more chopping power I would go straight to the NMSFNO, it's one heck of a knife. The SFNO won't be as much of an upgrade from the size of the SJTac. With your comments about handle shapes a SAR 8 isn't a bad option either, but not as much of a chopper as the NMSFNO. Good luck!

SFNO (light chopping-camp knife) for belt carry while hiking or NMSFNO (chopping tool) strapped to a pack for backpacking.

Hand shaped mags are nice and comfy but machined mags feel more secure in the elements for use.

NMSFO.
The SFNO is similar to the SJTac.
If you can both.

Sorry i use a translator.

Awesome! Thanks everyone.
MNSFNO it is. Now I just have to wait for one to show up on the exchange.

I just did some measuring on mine.

SFNO blade length was 7" on the nose and .222 thick.

NMSFNO blade length was 8-1/8" and .240 thick. It is coated.

My NMSFNO is my go to canoe camping knife and has been used around the yard and home fire pit quite a bit. I love this knife, they're great all rounders and when paired with a good multi-tool you'll have pretty much covered all your bases. Meaning they both make crappy fillet knives.

The SFNO I have is saber ground and I've only used it enough to know I wouldn't feel under knifed in any of the types of outdoor activities I do. It was more of a quest/grail knife for myself.

So of the two, I have a preference for the NMSFNO only due to the extra blade length. I find it more useful for batoning. I also like the coating because I'm always around water. The weight and length aren't bothersome to me and I wore it pretty much full time last year on two trips in a leather dangler sheath.

Hope it helps.

That actually helps quite a bit. Thanks Helle.

Note to self- bring fillet knife! :) My old Rapala lives in my tackle box anyway.

NM SFNO, you can be wrong:)

Wow that's pretty.
Hate to drop it in the swamp though. I'd never find it again.

who did the custom coating?

youre going to love the NMSFNO!

Out of all the Busses I've owned, if I could only keep one, the NMSFNO would be my choice - great all arounder.

Definately NMSFNO! Great knife! IMHO it has better proportions than SFNO and nuclear meldown treatment is very comfy and looks nice

The answer is simple: get both!

Heck, the BATAC and SJTAC are similar, in ways that the SFNO and NMSFNO, so the fact that you have both the BATAC and SJTAC suggests that getting both the SFNO and NMSFNO is the "right thing" to do.

Gee thanks Lunde.
Easier said than done...especially since the wife wants new window treatments.
For me the fat batacLE made a big enough difference compared to the sjtac.
Since the sfno is the same thickness as my sjtac le I don't think there will be a big weight or balance difference between those two.
I'll be starting with a nmsfno though, as soon as I find one I gotta have- with a coated blade and machined micarta handles.
Have one you need to get rid of for cheap? :)
