This SFO Farmer Jack with Garnett Jigged Bone Handles by GEC arrived yesterday. The knife is 3 3/4" closed with a 3 1/16" 1095 Spey Blade. Sharp enough out of the tube to put it to work without touching up/sharpening the blade. Ringed bolster and match-strike, long pull are nice touches. In the pictures the handles show much more red than they do in neutral light. The spey blade will come in handy for what little work I can still do on the ranches in the area.

That is SWEET Ed! Thanks for the pics. What I see? A really nice strong blade, very usable match strike long pull, nice choil, great bone, steel pins and lanyard tube...looks great.

Are the liners and bolsters steel?

Also, really like how the tip contours down and tucks flush in the handle. FF looks above average too.

Thanks for the kind words Kevin. The liners are brass and I'm not sure what the bolsters are made of -- I think nickle silver but I could be wrong.

Yes, I like a "Spey" blade alot. They come in very handy for skinning game of various sizes (deer right down to small squirrels and rabbits) and for ranch work -- cutting strings on hay bales, castration, etc..

The fit and finish on this knife is very good and the blade tip snuggles down nicely in the liners.

The jigging on the pile side (back side) handle was quite sharp down toward the lanyard hole and in fact, as I rubbed my thumb along the jigging a couple of pieces of bone flaked off and stuck in my thumb -- Ouch!! If you look closely you can see where the bone flaked off/broke off the handle.

It'll smooth down quite quickly I believe. Have a Tidioute 56 that initially had some very spiky jigging, this soon mellowed out. Rub down with lemon oil or furniture polish helps a lot.

I really like the jigging and colour on your knife, it will only improve too!

Nice Ed, thanks for the info. I don't know why, but I prefer my 73's with Brass liners. The 73 to me is a classy work knife. My favorite stag handled one just would not be the same with steel liners and bolsters IMO.

I am not a hunter and I don't work a ranch. But I did grow up on and around farms and can appreciate the blade profile :)

Congrats on that one. Oh, btw, my 73 Blood red bone that is one of my favorite 73's had a little fragmented bone and I just buffed it up a little. Smoothed it right out and then additional use made it real nice.

Thanks for the tips on smoothing the handles guys. I've already taken care of the problem by buffing the handles (both sides) with the edge of an old, well oiled, leather, sheath that I keep next to the desk.

Yes, this knife would work well on a farm too Kevin. It's just the ticket for that type of work or any outdoor work for that matter.

Nice looking knife, Ed. That red bone is really quite striking.

I agree, I used the spey blade on my stockman the most. Again, congrats, that one is going to age well :)

Good looking, I agree with stormdrane about the lanyard hole. Good to see a single bladed speyblade knife.

Kind regards
Andi

Trand, that is gorgeuos. Of all of the variations I had my eye on the green. So nice.

Thanks Kevin. I have a #66 Jack in this same bone but the Farmer's green is a little more vivid.

Gotcha, I have a spring green whittler and it just sold me on green. So elegant in person. Deep and rich too.
