I ordered a Matriarch from SFO and found out that they will only ship UPS. When I recieve the knife UPS will charge me about a third of the price for bringing it across the border. Please give us the choice of USPS for international orders.

I'm not exactly a huge international dealer, but I've found that USPS is much less expensive for international shipments than UPS, Federal Express, or any other private carrier. On the other hand, customers in some countries have asked me to send things by private carrier because they don't trust the combination of their own postal services and customs offices.

Choices are good.

Thanx for the info. I believe the problem was tracking and "who's responsible" if lost. USPS has no way to track. I'll bring it up to SFO & see if there is a way to work USPS (assuming the buyer accepts responsibility in case of loss?).

Sal, one suggestion would be to use EMS by USPS, as I suggested to Spark long before. It works quite well, and is a lot safer than the regular USPS Global Priority. Pretty fast, too. Think of it as being halfway between UPS and USPS Global. Price-wise, it costs half of what UPS charges, and takes just one or two days longer than UPS Int'l Express shipping.

Just my .02

Sal, insuring the package might solve the tracking / who pays for the replacement question. In my experience the USPS takes about as long as the alternatives and has been quite reliable. Only one package has gone missing and that one was uninsured. The post office also seems more residential friendly. UPS seems to be residential hostile and thier brokerage fees are truly prohibative.

BTW, I really appreciate your taking the time to answer this.

Have you e-mailed Charlie at SFO? When I asked him about shipping "down under" he agreed that USPS was the way to go.

Take care,

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow....in Australia it's tomorrow already.

Clay, I ordered last Saturday so I hope it has gone out already. When I ordered I asked specifically for USPS but was told that UPS was the only option for international orders (I forget who I spoke with but it wasn't Charlie). Water under the bridge, but I hope to have an option next time.

Greetings. Just for the record, the reason we use UPS is that we provide this (UPS ground shipping) as a free service to our customers. However, when shipping internationally, we do use the USPS almost exclusively. They're not the best, but they get the job done (most of the time.
Allan-check your email-your order was shipped via USPS.

At this time, we are looking at alternative methods of shipping. I'd appreciate any input that any of you all,not residing in the US, can give me. Thanks

Charlie, thanks for the update. I am glad to hear the Matriarch is on her way and equally glad that I won't have to deal with UPS after all.
