I've mentioned that I picked this up over in general, but now that I've carried it five days straight I figured I would do a review.

I've always loved the Bad Monkey, but never bought one, for a few reasons. I didn't want such a long blade, its just not my thing, and I already have a CS Recon 1 (4") and ZT 0561 (3.75" I believe), and the Kizer Ki423 (3.6"). I love carbon fibre, but am not a fan of the Emerson wave, and as far as I know you can't get one without the other. Lastly, I had a tough time justifying a $250 knife with 14C28N. Not that its a bad steel, but I expected something a little better. When the Spider Monkey was announced, It checked all my boxes.

Upon opening the package, I was very impressed. I love the sculpting of the CF scales. Grippy in the rear, which fades to smooth at the pivot. The weave is the most beautiful and unique design I've seen. I was disappointed upon opening it. It was stiffer than a sixteen year old at a jiggle joint.

I figured ok, well I'll just loosen the pivot slightly. Well that resulted in the blade going off center. Not rubbing the frame, but just enough to annoy Captain OCD. Whitty at Usamadeblade.com posted that it starts out tight but loosens up very quickly. I'd already missed the bus at this point, but returned the pivot to how it came, though it is still slightly off center. Luckily, a member here was kind enough to send me their extra set of proprietary tools.

As Whitty said, after playing with it for a few days it is now very smooth. I normally don't like thumbstuds, but this one is very well executed, and unobtrusive. At this point, I love everything about this knife, except for one small niggle. The pocket clip.

The angle of which the end of the clip is turned up digs into the palm of my large hands. Eyeballing it with what is left of my vision it appears the screws of of the same spacing and fitment of those Spyderco uses, so I may opt for a Spydie clip or putting the clip in a vise and reducing the angle.

It is a beautiful yet functional knife. Carbon fiber, titanium, and CPM-S35VN--What's not to like? If you are on the fence about it, GET IT.

Nice review. I picked one up from usa made blade this week. The fit and finish really is top notch. Mine opens pretty smooth and seems to be getting better with use.

Like you the only thing I am not sold on is the clip. I am going to try it for a while, but I might eventually try a benchmade split arrow clip.

Emerson, protech and benchmade clips match hole pattern, that is if the clip ismthebsame size as the bad monkey clip.

I've had mine for a month, and can echo everything posted above by K.O.D..

I must emphasize the contouring, sculpting and look of the CF. Nicest I have seen on a production knife! Better yet in the sunshine!

Instead of starting my own review, I'll just add my $.02 worth.
I also got mine from USA Made Blade this last Friday. Whitty is a fantastic man. Best customer service I've seen.
Out of the box sharpness was up there with the best of them. I only had to strop. The handle is actually very comfortable minus the pocket clip digging into my hand. I took it off to see what could be done, and there is actually a recessed pocket in the shape of the stock pocket clip milled into the handle....meaning, another pocket clip (i.e Benchmade) won't fit because it won't fully "seat" into the pocket. I cut my loses and put the clip back on after I bent it back just a tad. Now it is tight enough to keep the knife in, but I can draw it quicker and utilize the "sorta-kinda-wave-feature". I can get it to actuate about 75% of the time. Still working on it.
Fit and finish are superb. The weave and texture on the carbon fiber is spectacular. Very early lock up. Came very stiff, as mentioned above. But after about 100 flicks, I think I've got it where I need it (plus a little chris reeve fluorinated grease and loosening the pivot about a 1/8 of a turn).
I really like this knife and plan on it being part of my edc rotation. It's contenders are a ZT 0770M4CF and a ZT 0452. I may carry the spider monkey alone and have my 0770 ride shotgun to the 0452. Who knows.

Update: is anyone noticing any up/down lock rock? I have a very minimal amount developing.
