Sgian Dubh revisited.

A while back one of my customers asked me for a modernized- and revitalized- sgian dubh. The goal was to have a low profile, slim knife for backup self-defense and utility use. Something with around a 4 inch blade with a nice handle design that would work with the thin profile needed by a boot knife.

This is what I came up with the first time:

I've been playing with this, it is definitely one of my favorite designs and design areas. All the the following knives are in the range of 8-9.5 OAL with blades from 3.75 to 4.5 inches.

One of the goals of the project stems from having seen some REALLY bad dress sgian dubhs in the past, including one whose plastic handle came off when someone tried to use it as a steak knife (it was dull, and unsharpenable, too)

Utility, a bit of dress, and durability:

I'm having 2 sheaths come with each knife- one is a minimal sock sheath. Tight fitting, but just a cover. I'm considering methods for getting a decent clip onto that without messing with it. Also the patriot model field sheath, very nice tight fit, designed for horizontal or vertical carry with a belt hange through the loop. Also can easily attach to field gear.

Here's a size comparison from one of my customers, not my photos, he's better than I am:

Keith- the white one is paper micarta, I have some mammoth ivory to do one with "eventually" along with bronze for a bolster and butt.
