Thank you John, I apreciate you taking the time to look at them and posting a comment! Love your work!

MUCH RESPECT!

These knives look to be of decent quality and design.

The musk ox horn is irreplaceable.

Surely the new owner is happy....you must be very proud.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Those look like fine knives but they are not what I would call a Sgian dubh. They will be very heavy and thick next to a traditional Scottish pice and the grind is also not one I have seen on any of my pieces or other wise. To me these knives remind me more of a "pocket Dirk" than a Sgian dubh, but I can say I would still put one in my sock if it was handed to me. I'm always interested to see peoples interpretation of this knife, I'm very much a traditionalist when it comes to Scottish knives but I do still like nice knives of any sort. :)

Thank you for the comments I am learning from every knife I make. These are no exception. As a first attempt at this style knife I am pretty happy with em. :)

What should a traditional Sgian dubh style knife weigh?

I am actually not in Scotland just now so I am unable to wheigh any knives that I own to give an exact number but they are very light. The knives tend to be fairly small, thin things with a hidden tang and rather slim wooden or stag handle, they are not particularly heavy because of that. They have to be worn in a sock so they have to be light enough to sit on the side of your calf and not move about or slip into the sock. They also have a rather distinctive shape, quite often flat on the back side while leaning out on the other, this is down to how the knife is carried. You do get some nice pieces that are more of an evenly shaped slim dagger or boot knife type of style, but most people seem to prefer the traditional "upper class" style knives with a carved handle and stone (must be a Cairngorm stone) set at the butt. The blade is another thing that has some specifics to it, namely the shape, grind, file work and fuller. Those are of course open to interpretation or can be done away with all together, as you have. :p

I like the knives you made and to expect people to adhear to all the old traditions of a knife and it's style is unreasonable, it's also not going to be getting us any where new either. :)

Haze, Thanks or the detailed response. I knew we were going away from some of the traditional things for this style knife when we drew up a design. My main concern as a knife maker is that it will function as intended. and I think these will. Now Im gona worry if they will be to heavy for them to actually work as a carry.. Not sure they will ever see any sock time. But it would be a shame if they could not be carried in the traditional manner..

Im learning with every knife. and lovin it! Again thanks for your input.
Much Respect.

Made some progress!!
Alright! I was able to get some work done on these. I cant remember if I told you but the plan for the insides of the boxes were to line them with Badger fur!!!

First I found 2 beautiful Badger pelts and had them sent over.. Gota love GOOGLE!!!!

Honestly, When my client asked for Badger fur, I really wasn't sure and because I have never done anything quite like this was hesitant. yet agreed. Now that there done, I couldn't imagine them not lined in Badger fur! Its just AWESOME..
A single design aspects like this can make or break the look of the whole package.. And thankfully The fur really complemented the box, sheath and knife and solidified the whole thing somehow!

Thanks for looking and for all the comments
